Chapter 1942

The special pills Zhu Yanyi had crafted released a faint mist. This mist was harmless to living humans, but to the wandering souls, it was a terrifying weapon.

Souls were already fragile entities, unable to withstand much torment. Even the slightest scent of rat poison could cause them immense pain. Yet, they could not abandon their target, so they followed, enduring the agony.

"Can these souls be redeemed?" Zhu Yanyi asked Yan Aohan.

"It is possible, but not now," Yan Aohan replied after a brief pause. "If redemption occurs here, others will discover your presence, putting you in danger. Your primary task is to complete your mission."

Zhu Yanyi nodded. She was not ignorant of right and wrong. Given the circumstances, she had to ignore the suffering souls for the time being.

Since Zhu Yanyi did not intervene, the others did not either. They knew they lacked the power to deal with these souls.

Their pace quickened. Staying longer would bring endless trouble, potentially trapping them all. It was best to leave quickly.

After four hours of arduous travel, they finally crossed the death zone. For now, they had escaped unscathed.

They hoped this luck would hold. However, hope is often fragile. Ahead, a high-level evil demon appeared.

Originally, there were only three high-level demons in this area. One was dead, leaving two. Now, one of them stood before them.

"Come here," the high-level demon commanded. He could not see through their disguises, but he sensed something was wrong.

"Be careful with your mental energy," Zhu Yanyi warned. She realized this demon possessed mental attack capabilities.

Mental attacks were dangerous. If one’s will was weak, they could be controlled or driven mad.

Hearing this, Ouyang Tianyun and Yi Yunfei became even more cautious. Zhu Yanyi stepped forward, shielding the group.

The demon saw their defensive stance and felt no surprise. Demons rarely trusted each other. Still, he sensed their behavior was odd.

"Remove your face coverings," the demon ordered.

Ouyang Tianyun disguised his voice, making it hoarse. "No one removes their covering here. Do not think we will obey just because you are a high-level demon. Here, no one listens to anyone."

Zhan Diting had previously explained the internal dynamics of the demons. This response was the safest approach.

"I command you," the demon said, clearly displeased.

"Command? Who knows if we will become high-level demons in the future? Do you think you can command us? Here, there is only submission, not command," Ouyang Tianyun replied.

"You seek death," the demon growled. "You mere mid-level demons dare speak to me like this?"

"Mid-level demons eventually become high-level," Ouyang Tianyun said without fear.

In truth, a high-level demon’s power was comparable to a cultivator in the Soul Formation stage. Ouyang Tianyun and Yi Yunfei could defeat him together, but they could not reveal this weakness.

"You truly seek death," the demon said, his authority challenged. He would not tolerate such disrespect.

Zhu Yanyi prepared herself. If the demon attacked, she would use her poison immediately. She could not afford to alert other demons. Although only two high-level demons remained, she could not risk any surprises.

She watched the demon closely.

A light flashed in the demon’s eyes. "Then die." He launched a mental attack.

Zhu Yanyi immediately threw a seed of the Turtle Back Leaf, shielding everyone.

"You are not demons," the demon snarled, his eyes growing fiercer. He was now certain. Demons did not help other demons.

"They say high-level demons are smart. Indeed," Zhu Yanyi smiled lightly. She snapped her fingers, and countless man-eating flowers appeared around the demon.

The demon’s expression changed. "You can control plants?" She prioritized dealing with the flowers over fighting Zhu Yanyi.

Zhu Yanyi seized the opportunity. As the demon moved, she released her poison.

While the demon fought the flowers, the poison slowly rose from his feet.

"High-level demons are nothing special," Zhu Yanyi said. With a wave of her hand, the demon dissolved into smoke. A Baiye leaf fell into her hand.

She waved her hand again, and the plants vanished. She leaned against a rock, panting slightly. "Fortunately, these demons appear alone. Otherwise, I do not know how I would have resisted."

"Are you okay?" the others asked.

Zhu Yanyi waved her hand. "I am fine, just a bit out of breath. We must leave quickly. This is not a place to stay. If the demons discover us, it will be bad."

Everyone agreed. They checked their surroundings, confirmed it was safe, and continued walking.

Yan Aohan had not intervened because he trusted Zhu Yanyi. She had not disappointed him.

"Wife, do you need to rest?" Yan Aohan asked. Although the area was dangerous, he could ensure their safety if she needed a break.

"I am fine, no need," Zhu Yanyi replied. "Although I am tired, this is a good test for my body. One must reach their limit to break through. In this oppressive environment, I feel this deeply."
