Chapter 52: This Bastard Deserves a Beating

A fragrant mix of green onions and lard spread across her tongue. With a slight bite, the wonton skin broke, releasing a burst of pork aroma that hit her taste buds. Mixed with the onion scent, and seasoned simply with just salt and MSG, the freshness of the wontons was fully revealed. It was delicious.

Zhu Yanyi nodded as she ate, her face showing pure enjoyment. Seeing this, Zhu Shun Yao and Cheng Baokun couldn’t help but laugh.

Cheng Baokun smiled gently. "Ani likes wontons very much, doesn't she?"

Zhu Yanyi swallowed the wonton in her mouth and said, "Yes. These wontons are very fresh and tasty."

"Then eat more. If it’s not enough, Uncle Baokun will get you another bowl," Cheng Baokun said with a smile. A bowl of wontons cost only three mao, which was nothing to him.

"No need. It’s enough," Zhu Yanyi replied. She wasn’t greedy. She ate to enjoy the food, not to stuff herself until she was full.

Cheng Baokun nodded but still ordered a steamer of small steamed buns.

The small steamed buns here were also genuine. They had plenty of meat, and the dough was very soft. Unlike small steamed buns in other places, the ones in Yaojiang City were not rolled out but made from fermented flour. So, the skin was soft, almost like a mantou. It was not tough like dumpling wrappers.

"Delicious," Zhu Yanyi said. Being young, her stomach was small. After eating a bowl of wontons and one bun, her little belly was already full.

"It’s delicious, so you should eat more," Cheng Baokun said. She watched Zhu Yanyi put down her spoon, finish her bun, and carefully take out her small handkerchief to wipe her mouth and hands. She felt even more fond of her.

"No, it’s enough. My belly is full," Zhu Yanyi said. She put away her handkerchief and gave Cheng Baokun a sweet smile. "Thank you, Uncle Baokun, for treating us."

Cheng Baokun was surprised for a moment, then laughed heartily. He turned to Zhu Shun Yao and said, "I really like Ani’s cleverness. Go home and ask her parents quickly. I can’t wait to make her my goddaughter."

Cheng Chen, standing nearby, suddenly spoke up. "If Dad gets a goddaughter, does that mean I become a big brother?"

Cheng Baokun nodded. "Yes. Well, Cheng Chen, do you want a little sister?"

"Of course I do. Dad, hurry up and bring the little sister home," Cheng Chen said.

Her words scared Zhu Yanli, who immediately hugged Zhu Yanyi tight. "This is my sister. You can’t take her."

Cheng Chen was stunned and looked at Cheng Baokun with a hurt expression. "I want to hug my sister too?"

Cheng Baokun coughed lightly. "Ani isn’t Dad’s daughter yet. Let Uncle Shun Yao go ask. In a few days, you will have a little sister."

Cheng Chen was a bit impatient but didn’t argue further. Instead, she said to Zhu Yanli, "Let Sister Ani play with me. I will let you play with my toys."

"What toys do you have? Do you have comic books?" Zhu Yanli asked curiously.

Cheng Chen nodded seriously. "Yes, yes. I also have fairy tale books and storybooks. I will let you read them all later."

"Is that so?" Zhu Yanli tilted her head and thought for a moment. "Then you can play with my sister."

Zhu Yanyi, who had become the center of this 'trade', was stunned. She looked at Zhu Yanli, then at Cheng Chen, and blurted out, "Why do I feel like I am only worth a few comic books and storybooks? I am not valuable at all."
