Chapter 2574

Zhu Yanyi had long forgotten about Zhan Diting’s refusal to marry. The Underworld was overflowing with tasks. Now that Yan Aohan was thoroughly reforming the entire realm, the workload had only increased.

Every day involved discussions, meetings, planning, and budgeting. Zhu Yanyi realized that life in the Underworld was busier than being a mortal.

One day, ignoring Yan Aohan’s meetings, she pushed Xiao Mianmian’s stroller out for a slow walk. The Underworld was developing, but the roads were already very smooth.

Zhu Yanyi and Xiao Mianmian looked at their surroundings. The red spider lilies were still a vibrant sea of red. Looking at this place, Zhu Yanyi felt a deep sense of belonging. This was now her home.

Xiao Mianmian woke up. Zhu Yanyi picked a red spider lily and let the baby hold it. "Mianmian, this is our Underworld. Look, the flowers are so pretty."

Xiao Mianmian loved red, and indeed, any bright color. She giggled while holding the flower.

Zhu Yanyi adjusted the stroller so Xiao Mianmian could see the endless field of red spider lilies. They walked and talked, both very happy.

After visiting the flowers, Zhu Yanyi took Xiao Mianmian to her herb garden. The herbs were growing well. After checking them, she stepped out.

It was time to return to the Yan Palace. Suddenly, she heard cries of injustice from the west.

Since the Underworld was now divided into zones, ordinary wronged souls usually couldn’t project their voices this far. If the sound reached here, the soul’s grievance must be extremely deep.

Zhu Yanyi raised an eyebrow. She placed Xiao Mianmian into the Ruyi Space for Flame to watch, then flew toward the sound.

In a section of the City of Wrongful Deaths in the west, a ghost was banging on a gate. "I am innocent! I want revenge! Let me pass!"

Zhu Yanyi saw the ghost’s soul glowing with red light, indicating true anger.

She landed softly. "Why do you cry out injustice?"

"I died to complain to the Venerable Yanluo. I am not supposed to be locked in this City of Wrongful Deaths," the ghost said seriously.

"You committed suicide," Zhu Yanyi observed.

"Yes, I did. If I hadn’t, I had no place to live in the mortal world. No one cared about my family’s injustice. So I killed myself to beg the Venerable Yanluo for a fair judgment and to clear my family’s name." The red glow on the ghost intensified, showing how heavy the grievance was.

"I see you are wronged. But do you know that here, souls who commit suicide must stay in the City of Wrongful Deaths to serve out their remaining lifespan? Only then can you process your paperwork and enter the Underworld. Otherwise, it is like being caught smuggling. You would be stuck in one place. Since your lifespan isn’t over and you killed yourself, you must spend these bleak years here."

Zhu Yanyi looked at the ghost. "The mortal world has its rules. The Underworld has its laws. Do you understand?"

The ghost paused. "You mean I died for nothing?"

"Normally, no. After serving your remaining years, staff will arrange for your life to be reviewed and investigated," Zhu Yanyi explained. "However, I see your resentment is deep. Tell me your story. Perhaps I can help."

"You can help me?" The ghost looked at her, surprised.

Zhu Yanyi smiled. "Of course. If I couldn’t help, I wouldn’t be here. But you must tell the truth."

"I will tell the truth," the ghost said seriously.

"My name is Li Kang. I was a teacher. My wife was a self-employed business owner. We had a lovely daughter. We loved her dearly, and our family was happy."

Li Kang began to recount his life.

Li Kang’s family was typical. He was a middle school chemistry teacher, not a homeroom teacher, but a subject teacher. Having a permanent position, his life was stable.

His wife ran a small clothing stall in a budget market. Their life was modest but comfortable, and they were happy.

Their daughter, Li Anning, was a quiet girl who loved dance. Seeing her interest, Li Kang and her wife did their best to support her.

As Anning grew older and practiced dance daily, her posture and temperament improved greatly. This beauty brought disaster.

Anning was invited to perform at a gala. It seemed like a good opportunity. After the show, the director treated everyone to dinner. Anning went, drank a beverage, and fainted. When she woke up, she had been assaulted by the director.

Unable to bear the trauma, Anning went mad. Later, she was hit by a car while walking on the street and died.

Li Kang’s wife, unable to bear the shock, also died.

Li Kang sought justice everywhere. But the director had powerful backers and was unafraid. Instead, he set a trap, accusing Li Kang of altering students’ identities for the high school entrance exam. Li Kang lost his job and faced prison.

With his family gone and his life ruined, Li Kang could not endure it. He took his own life.

Zhu Yanyi frowned slightly. "What is the director’s name?"

"Zhang Gong," Li Kang said seriously. "It is said his maternal grandfather is very famous, the former renowned director Xie Yijun."

Hearing this, Zhu Yanyi’s eyes flashed. "In that case, I will take your case."

"Really? What price must I pay?" Li Kang asked.

Zhu Yanyi smiled. "You are wronged. I will seek justice for you to calm your resentment. This will also help you reincarnate smoothly in the future."

Li Kang nodded through tears. "Thank you."

Zhu Yanyi opened her right hand. The Book of Life and Death appeared. She extracted Li Kang from the City of Wrongful Deaths, sealed her in the book, and returned to the Yan Palace.

Yan Aohan had already taken their daughter out of the Ruyi Space. Father and daughter were playing happily. Seeing Zhu Yanyi arrive, she asked, "How was the City of Wrongful Deaths?"

The couple never hid things from each other. Zhu Yanyi told her about Li Kang. Then she added, "I checked Zhang Gong’s background. Using Xie Yijun’s name, she has committed many sins. Such a person should be brought to justice."
