Chapter 2873

Seeing this, Qian Huansheng’s expression shifted slightly. she first took Cheng Jin’s pulse to confirm that she was merely exhausted and not injured, only then did she feel at ease.

She then held Cheng Jin and used a teleportation technique to return to her room. After placing her on the bed, she left.

Cheng Jin slept for a full day and night. Upon waking, seeing she was in her own room, she realized Qian Huansheng had brought her back.

She got up, took a bath, changed her clothes, and then went downstairs. Her first stop was the kitchen to find something to eat.

"Uncle Lao Bai, is there any food left?" Cheng Jin asked.

Lao Bai saw Cheng Jin and smiled. "Yes, I happened to buy a genuine wild pheasant today. I stewed a pot of soup. How about I make you some noodles with it?"

"Great!" Hearing there was wild pheasant soup, Cheng Jin’s eyes lit up.

Lao Bai quickly prepared a bowl of noodles for her.

Cheng Jin finished the noodles slurping loudly, then patted her stomach. "I feel like I’m alive again."

"You slept for a full day and night," Lao Bai said. "The boss said you were tired and told us to let you rest without disturbing you. So, Uncle Lao Ma and I didn’t bother you."

After speaking, Lao Bai winked. "Little Cheng, you and the boss are together now."

"What?" Cheng Jin blinked. "We went out to work together, everyone knows that."

"Not just working together. I mean, are you two… together?" He tapped his two thumbs together.

Cheng Jin realized what he meant. "Uncle Lao Bai, why are you being so gossipy? But unfortunately, I and the boss are not in that kind of relationship. Your gossip has no audience."

Lao Bai sighed. "The boss is not young anymore. It would be good if he found a boss lady soon."

Cheng Jin laughed. "I dare not say that. You know the boss’s personality; it’s absolutely terrifying."

Lao Bai chuckled. "The boss is so gentle, how could he be terrifying?"

Cheng Jin smiled without saying much. However, regarding whether Qian Huansheng was truly gentle, Cheng Jin would never say another word.

Cheng Jin went out and saw Lao Ma wiping glasses. She walked over and sat opposite her. "Uncle Lao Ma, how was business yesterday?"

"Same as usual." Lao Ma wore a kind smile. "You’re awake. Have you eaten?"

"I have. Uncle Lao Bai made wild pheasant soup noodles. It was delicious," Cheng Jin said with a smile.

Lao Ma nodded slightly. "It seems your cultivation has increased significantly."

Cheng Jin had indeed noticed upon waking that her cultivation had improved greatly after this purification.

"Yes, I noticed too. I must have used all my power during the purification of the resentment, so I broke through," Cheng Jin said, shaking her hands. Her body felt lighter now.

Indeed, deeper cultivation was good. She could now see many things clearly. For example, the red spider lily in the hall originally looked like just a flower, but now she could see it surrounded by an illusory red spider lily.

After a while, Cheng Jin quickly got used to this new perception. Regardless, this change was good; at least her self-protection level had increased.

The day passed.

For the next half month, life seemed very peaceful. There were not many incidents outside, so Cheng Jin focused on being a waitress at the Yuan Yuan Coffee Shop.

One day, around nine in the morning, Cheng Jin had finished cleaning and was about to rest when she heard the wind chime at the door ring. A young man walked in. "Excuse me, are you hiring waitstaff here?"

"Come in. I’ll find the person in charge to receive you," Cheng Jin said.

She then called out to the back. "Uncle Lao Ma, someone is here to apply for a waitress position."

Lao Ma came out, looked at the young man, and smiled. "Sit down and talk."

After the young man sat down, Cheng Jin brought him a cup of hot water. Lao Ma then spoke. "My surname is Ma. People here call me Lao Ma. The young ones call me Uncle Lao Ma. Young man, what is your name?"

"Hello, Mr. Ma. My name is Chen Tang," Chen Tang said seriously.

"If you are looking for a part-time job, it won’t work. I am looking for full-time staff," Lao Ma said.

Requiring full-time staff was something only Lao Ma would state so matter-of-factly. However, since the Yuan Yuan Coffee Shop was unique, such requirements were understandable.

"To be honest, I am an orphan. I just graduated from university, have no work experience, and no place to live. My only requirement is room and board. Everything else is negotiable," Chen Tang said seriously.

Lao Ma smiled. "That’s no problem. All our employees receive room and board. The probation period for waitstaff is one month. The salary during probation is 2,500 yuan. After probation, it is 4,000 yuan. Additionally, our coffee shop is a bit special. There are few customers during the day; most come at night, especially after nine o’clock. So, you will need to work night shifts. Of course, you are allowed to rest during the day when there are no customers."

Lao Ma paused. "Our daytime schedule is flexible, but the night is busy."

"That’s fine. Working nights is okay," Chen Tang said. He didn’t mind night or day shifts. He primarily needed a place to settle. Since he hadn’t graduated from a prestigious university, he couldn’t return to the orphanage after graduation.

"Alright. Follow me to handle the procedures, and then I’ll take you to the dormitory. Our coffee shop only operates on the first floor. The second floor is the employee dormitory. The east side is where Lao Bai and I, the two men, live. With you, it will be three. The west side is where Little Cheng, the girl, lives."

Lao Ma continued while handling the paperwork. "Daily life on both sides does not intersect, except for work. The third floor is the boss’s private residence, so you must absolutely not go there."

"I remember," Chen Tang noted.

After finishing the procedures, Lao Ma took Chen Tang to the dormitory.

Cheng Jin watched all this and felt touched. It seemed like just a few months ago, she had arrived in the same way. Unexpectedly, in such a short time, she had changed so much.

"What are you thinking about?" Qian Huansheng came out and saw Cheng Jin spacing out.

"I saw the new waiter and remembered that I came here the same way a few months ago. Now, after just a few months, I feel like the current me is completely different from the me of a few months ago," Cheng Jin said, sticking out her tongue.

Qian Huansheng nodded. "That is understandable. People’s hearts change every day. With different experiences, the state of mind naturally changes."

She then added, "Alright, stop overthinking. Come with me for a trip."

"Another new mission?" Cheng Jin immediately took off her apron, made slight preparations, and followed Qian Huansheng out.

"It’s not exactly a new mission. We are going to pick someone up," Qian Huansheng said, looking at Cheng Jin.

Cheng Jin raised an eyebrow slightly. "Pick someone up? Who?"

"The baby we saved half a month ago," Qian Huansheng said, opening the car door for Cheng Jin to enter first.

Cheng Jin sat in and fastened her seatbelt, then frowned slightly. "What’s wrong with the baby? Is something inappropriate?"

Qian Huansheng got into the driver’s seat, fastened his seatbelt, and then spoke. "After the baby returned home, he had a persistent high fever. Later, someone from the Mystic Sect said this child should not live at home. So, they came to beg me again."

"I don’t think you are someone who agrees easily. They begged, and you agreed to take care of the baby," Cheng Jin blurted out.

"Yes, I am indeed not someone who agrees easily," Qian Huansheng did not deny this. "However, I calculated that this child has a master-disciple destiny with me. So, I decided to pick him up."

"The child isn’t even a month old. What will you do with him?" Cheng Jin was speechless.

"Don’t you have me?" Qian Huansheng was direct. "I don’t know how to take care of him, but you do. Besides, there are so many people in our coffee shop. Taking care of one child is nothing."

"Have you forgotten what kind of place our coffee shop is? That child cannot appear on the first floor for long. It’s bad for her," Cheng Jin reminded her. "For the first three months, it’s fine if she just sleeps and wakes up. But later, she will sit, crawl, and walk. After one year old, she will be curious about everything. You can’t keep her confined to the second and third floors forever."

"It’s fine. I’m here," Qian Huansheng smiled. "I’ll put her in my practice chamber then. There’s enough space for her to make a fuss."

"I’m saying, Boss, have you never raised a child?" Cheng Jin said helplessly. "A child cannot stay indoors forever."

She then sighed. "Forget it. I’ll go back and study talisman paper. That way, she won’t get into trouble."

Cheng Jin’s words seemed to forget that the Qian Huansheng in front of her was a true deity.

Qian Huansheng looked at Cheng Jin. He didn’t seem to plan on reminding her, only nodding. "Exactly. With you, the inheritor of the Heavenly Master, I don’t need to worry about this child."

Cheng Jin giggled. "I’ve found that my power has improved significantly these days."

"Congratulations. Then next time, we can take on slightly more difficult missions," Qian Huansheng said.

Cheng Jin glanced at Qian Huansheng, her mouth twitching. "Can we not talk about missions? Although I don’t mind these unscientific things happening, their occurrence usually means bad things. No missions is best."

Qian Huansheng said, "Where there are people, there are always conflicts."

This sounded simple, but Cheng Jin felt Qian Huansheng might be implying something. She looked at her suspiciously for a while but ultimately said nothing.

Qian Huansheng drove Cheng Jin into a villa area. Looking out the window, Cheng Jin could determine that the people living in this villa area were either rich or noble.
