Chapter 2943
Chapter 2943: A New Goal
Yan Xiwan had set a new goal and buried herself in the laboratory every day.
In Dormitory 207, Pan Hongmei was also out early and back late every day.
"Fourth Sister is in the lab every day. Besides regular classes, it’s just the lab. It’s hard to find her. First Sister is also out early and back late now. Only you and I are idle," Pei Wushuang said, looking bored.
"Yes, let’s not talk about Fourth Sister. We don’t understand her brain anyway; that’s the world of geniuses. But what is First Sister doing lately?" Hu Ya asked curiously. "Do you think First Sister has a boyfriend?"
"I haven’t heard anything," Pei Wushuang said. She wasn’t sensitive to such matters.
"Then let’s ask when First Sister comes back today," Hu Ya said, perking up.
"Second Sister, are you sure you want to ask First Sister?" Pei Wushuang asked curiously.
Although Pan Hongmei wasn’t as busy as Yan Xiwan, Pei Wushuang felt, perhaps due to her own sensitivity, that Pan Hongmei was not simple.
"Isn’t that normal?" Hu Ya looked at Pei Wushuang’s strange expression. "If she really has a boyfriend, she should treat us to a meal."
"Treat us to what?" Yan Xiwan walked in.
"Fourth Sister, why are you back today?" Hu Ya and Pei Wushuang were surprised to see Yan Xiwan.
Yan Xiwan smiled. "I finished today’s work early, so I came back. Plus, I have some homework to do." She then looked at Hu Ya and Pei Wushuang. "What are you two talking about?"
Pei Wushuang laughed. "Second Sister said we should ask First Sister what she’s been up to lately. If she has a boyfriend, she should treat us, her family, to a meal."
Yan Xiwan realized. "Oh, that’s what it is." She added, "In that case, when my fiancé returns, I should treat you all to a meal too."
"Fourth Sister, you’re engaged? How did we not know?" Hu Ya asked.
"Didn’t I say it?" Yan Xiwan remembered she might have mentioned it. Or maybe she hadn’t.
"We definitely didn’t know," Hu Ya said seriously.
Yan Xiwan nodded. "Then it’s my fault. When my fiancé returns, I’ll have him treat you."
"Fourth Sister, what does your fiancé do?" Pei Wushuang asked curiously.
Yan Xiwan tilted her head, thinking for a moment. "My fiancé? she is a researcher."
She didn’t say what she researched.
Pei Wushuang and Hu Ya didn’t ask further. They knew that anything involving the research institute, even small matters, could become big issues.
When Pan Hongmei returned, she was greeted by three pairs of curious eyes. She paused, then laughed after understanding their thoughts. "I did find a boyfriend, but our relationship is just stabilizing. How about this? Next Friday, I’ll have her treat you all to a meal."
"That’s the way to do it. He’s our future brother-in-law. We must examine him properly," Pei Wushuang said generously.
Pan Hongmei glanced at Yan Xiwan. Yan Xiwan’s face showed a few more smiles, happy for Pan Hongmei. "Finding a boyfriend is a good thing."
Pan Hongmei nodded. "It took a long time to find him."
Others didn’t understand this, but Yan Xiwan did. "Then I congratulate you, First Sister. Next Friday, we’ll really take advantage of him."
The four girls in Dormitory 207 laughed heartily.
"By the way, Fourth Sister, have you seen our school’s most handsome boy?" Pei Wushuang asked.
"Most handsome boy? Who?" Yan Xiwan genuinely hadn’t heard. Her life was a straight line between the dorm, classroom, and lab. She had no time for others.
Pei Wushuang gave her a 'you’re hopeless' look. "Zhou Shuai."
"Oh," Yan Xiwan nodded. "Never heard of him."
Pan Hongmei, Hu Ya, and Pei Wushuang: (⊙o⊙)…
Seeing their expressions, Yan Xiwan continued, "I really haven’t heard of him. And I don’t have time to listen to their gossip. I’m busy."
"Sigh, I finally understand. Our Fourth Sister really doesn’t know," Hu Ya concluded.
"She really doesn’t know," Yan Xiwan nodded. "Besides, I don’t think it’s necessary to know who the most handsome boy or girl is. It has nothing to do with me."
"True," Pan Hongmei nodded from the side. "A person’s energy is limited. Fourth Sister puts her energy into various researches, so she indeed has no time for other things."
"Not only that," Yan Xiwan said. "I’m also pursuing a double degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine, so I have no time for things outside of study."
"Okay, let’s not talk about the most handsome boy. But we wanted to ask, are you participating in the medical competition next month?" Hu Ya asked. "I brought up the most handsome boy because he will participate in this competition."
"Is there anything special about this competition?" Yan Xiwan asked.
"I heard winning adds credit points," Hu Ya answered.
Yan Xiwan shook her head. "I get extra credit points every time I finish a research project. My daily Western Medicine credits are already enough. Now I just need to secure exam credits. Currently, I’m trying to add Traditional Chinese Medicine credits. So if there are TCM free clinics, I’ll participate. But for other competitions, I won’t."
Few young people studied TCM nowadays. Even in medical universities, although TCM was a specialized discipline, very few truly studied it. Most young people studied Western Medicine.
Hearing that Yan Xiwan had already maxed out her Western Medicine daily credits, Pei Wushuang pointed at her. "You’re not human. How long have you been enrolled?"
"Not too long, at least over a month," Yan Xiwan said with a grin.
"Yes, over a month. You maxed out your Western Medicine daily credits in over a month. Are you even human?" Pei Wushuang said with a resentful expression.
"If I’m not human, what am I? A fairy? A god? Either works," Yan Xiwan laughed.
Well, Yan Xiwan’s thick skin was not something normal people could compare to. So they just looked at each other, lowered their heads, and forgot about Yan Xiwan.
Yan Xiwan didn’t care. To her, school was for studying, not for participating in various activities.
Even Professor Feng and Old Yuan hadn’t asked her to participate in activities. So, with her naturally calm personality, she wouldn’t actively join any events.
Thus, when the Capital Medical University competition started in full swing, Yan Xiwan didn’t take it to heart.
"Have you heard about the competition held by the school?" Professor Feng entered and saw Yan Xiwan handling various Chinese herbs.
"Yes, I heard from my roommates a while ago," Yan Xiwan said without looking up.
Old Yuan, standing nearby, saw Professor Feng and said, "Old Feng, you can’t imagine. When you dragged my disciple to do experimental research, I didn’t disturb you. Now why are you coming to disturb my disciple?"
Old Yuan was very dissatisfied with Professor Feng’s behavior.
Professor Feng hurriedly said, "I came because an accident happened in the competition."
"What accident?" Old Yuan asked.
"The competition lasts three days. On the third day, a group of foreigners barged in inexplicably," Professor Feng said with a helpless expression. "As you know, our country’s Western Medicine was introduced from abroad. On a certain level, we are indeed inferior to them. They provoked us. It could have been treated as an exchange, but they proposed a wager."
"A wager?" Yan Xiwan frowned slightly. "If it were just an exchange competition, it would be about rewards. How did it come to a wager? This doesn’t seem like a normal exchange."
Professor Feng nodded. "Exactly. Later, after investigation, we found these foreigners were just here to test our country. But our Western Medicine level is really not up to par. So I thought, I had to come to you, Xiwan."
"Teacher, you want me to go out and fight?" Yan Xiwan pondered slightly.
Professor Feng nodded. "There is no one more suitable than you. You can’t ask this old man to go, can you?"
Yan Xiwan thought for a moment. "Then when is the next match?"
Yan Xiwan didn’t want her country to be trampled upon, so she accepted the task.
"Day after tomorrow at eight, in the school auditorium. The staff from the unit will also attend," Professor Feng said seriously.
Yan Xiwan raised her eyebrows slightly and sighed in her heart. Actually, medical skills have no borders. As long as it benefits the people, it’s good. She didn’t understand why they had to determine a winner.
But since she was now in this position, she had to plan well, lest someone think her country’s medical skills were useless.
Thinking of this, Yan Xiwan looked at Old Yuan and then at Professor Feng. "Master, Teacher, if I beat them so hard they lose their confidence, don’t blame me."
"What do you plan to do?" Old Yuan’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing this. He felt his disciple was going to do something big.
Yan Xiwan coughed. "Actually, nothing much. I just think medical skills originally have no borders. But since someone came to cause trouble, I will use both hands to show them what true medical skills are. That might crush their confidence too much. So I want to make it clear first, so you won’t worry later."
Old Yuan was stunned by Yan Xiwan’s words, then looked at her. "Medical skills have no borders."
"Medical skills should not have borders. As healers, discovering patients and relieving their suffering is inevitable. So I don’t understand what the point of medical competitions is."
Yan Xiwan sighed slightly. "Of course, if it’s for healthy competition, that’s fine. But if there are often wagers, I think it’s really unnecessary. To prevent similar things from happening in the future, I think beating the opponents into the ground is the best solution."
Old Yuan and Professor Feng listened to this, looking at Yan Xiwan with eyes full of light.
This light made Yan Xiwan’s heart tremble.
