Chapter 2948
Chapter 2948: Roommates' Dinner
Ouyang Tianyun nodded. "My cousin gave me a black card. I’ll give it to you later."
"I don’t go out for gatherings often. Like today, you’re the one who came along, so you should keep it," Yan Xiwan said. Her Buddhist nature was unchangeable.
Ouyang Tianyun didn’t insist. Hu Ya turned on the TV nearby. There were only a few channels, so they were just turning it on for the noise.
Ouyang Tianyun had already ordered the food. Ouyang Feiyang knew his cousin was meeting his future cousin-in-law’s roommates, so without needing reminders, he had everything prepared.
The dishes arrived quickly. Yan Xiwan and Ouyang Tianyun invited everyone to sit down.
"Number Four, today I’m really borrowing your light," Hu Ya said with a smile.
Yan Xiwan smiled slightly. "Actually, today is mainly to thank you all. I’ve been busy these days, but I know there must be rumors outside. You all blocked them for me, didn’t you?"
"Rumors? What rumors?" Ouyang Tianyun frowned slightly.
"It’s nothing big. You know, Elder Yuan is my master, and Professor Feng is my teacher. Some people just sour grapes because they can’t have what I have," Yan Xiwan said, not taking it to heart.
"As college students, instead of studying hard, they have the leisure to envy others. What a strange habit," Ouyang Tianyun frowned. "No matter what, I must investigate. We can’t let you suffer."
"Fine. It goes in one ear and out the other. If you want to investigate, go ahead," Yan Xiwan said to Ouyang Tianyun.
Ouyang Tianyun nodded. This matter definitely needed investigation.
"Who asked us to be roommates? Of course, we help where we can," Pan Hongmei said.
Yan Xiwan raised her glass. "To our friendship."
"To our friendship." Everyone laughed and clinked glasses.
Pei Wushuang took a big gulp and choked, coughing violently. Zuo Xiangmeng beside her hurriedly patted her back, worried.
Yan Xiwan giggled. "Number Three always envies others. Now you don’t need to, do you? Look how good Third Brother-in-law is to you. I don’t understand how your eyes were so blind these years."
"What do you mean blind?" Pei Wushuang said,不服气 (unconvinced), after catching her breath.
"How else? If you weren’t blind, how could you not see Third Brother-in-law’s feelings for you? You treated him like a buddy," Yan Xiwan said.
Pei Wushuang pouted. "I didn’t know he liked me."
Zuo Xiangmeng hurriedly said, "It’s all my fault. I didn’t make it clear."
Hu Ya shook her head with a sigh. "Fools have foolish luck. That’s probably what describes Number Three."
Chen Zhengguo picked up a chicken wing for Hu Ya. "Your favorite chicken wing."
Hu Ya smiled sweetly at Chen Zhengguo, then picked up a piece of braised pork for him. "Your favorite braised pork."
Seeing their harmonious relationship, Yan Xiwan said, "Actually, Number Two and Second Brother-in-law are great too. You two have that old married couple vibe. Number Two, you should have introduced Second Brother-in-law to us earlier."
"I have time, but do you? You’re the busiest in our dorm," Hu Ya glanced at Yan Xiwan sideways.
Yan Xiwan stuck out her tongue. "It’s not my fault. There’s nothing else to do at school. I don’t like joining messy clubs, so I’d rather study useful things."
"Number Four, I heard your lab succeeded in several projects. When will they be announced?" Pan Hongmei asked.
Yan Xiwan shook her head slightly, took a sip of the fish head tofu soup Ouyang Tianyun had ladled for her, and said, "The projects I’m researching won’t be announced for now."
"Your projects can’t be announced?" Pan Hongmei raised an eyebrow.
Lu Fang beside her said, "Hongmei, if they can’t be announced, don’t ask."
As a teaching assistant, Lu Fang knew that if a lab project couldn’t be announced, there must be reasons others couldn’t imagine. Moreover, if a project was kept secret by the state, it was definitely not a small one.
Lu Fang had heard that among this year’s college entrance exam students at the Capital Medical University, Yan Xiwan was a unique existence. She rarely participated in school activities, focusing more on research. Most importantly, she was Elder Yuan’s disciple and Professor Feng’s student.
One was an expert in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the other was a true expert in Western Medicine. It was hard to get them to see patients, requiring many connections. They hardly treated anyone except specific people now. But Yan Xiwan was their successor, representing something different.
After this simple interaction, he understood even more that Yan Xiwan’s ability wasn’t just about having backers.
"Actually, I think no matter what the project is, as long as we face ourselves correctly and do our own jobs, that’s enough," Yan Xiwan said with a smile.
"Hmm, I agree with that," Ouyang Tianyun smiled, picking up a piece of carrot for her.
Yan Xiwan frowned. "I don’t like the taste of cooked carrots. I can eat raw ones, but not cooked."
"Be good, eat one piece," Ouyang Tianyun said firmly. "I see you haven’t eaten much carrot these days, not even raw ones. Since that’s the case, force yourself to eat one cooked piece. Tomorrow I’ll buy you raw ones."
Yan Xiwan knew she was being picky, so she bit into the carrot.
Strangely, Yan Xiwan didn’t mind raw carrots, but she didn’t like the taste of cooked ones. So at home, she never ate cooked carrots. Only when Ouyang Tianyun was around would she feed her a little.
"There’s lamb soup. Want some?" Ouyang Tianyun asked Yan Xiwan.
"No, I want fish soup," Yan Xiwan said. She preferred fish.
"Okay." Ouyang Tianyun ladled another bowl of fish soup for Yan Xiwan.
"Your relationship is really good," Hu Ya said.
"Your relationship with Second Brother-in-law is good too," Yan Xiwan replied. "Besides, it’s our own choice. Whether it’s good or bad, we live with it. Why not choose to live well?"
Hu Ya paused, then laughed. "You’re right. No matter what, life is ours. We should choose to live well."
Chen Zhengguo said, "Hu Ya, don’t worry. My dad has come around. I’m currently persuading my mom."
"I’m not in a hurry," Hu Ya smiled. "I’m only nineteen, and just a freshman. There are still several years until graduation and marriage. So I’m not anxious."
"You’re not anxious, but I am," Chen Zhengguo said. "I know many guys in your university are secretly watching you."
Hu Ya waved her hand. "Don’t worry. I’m not that kind of person. So don’t worry. Before we have a result, I won’t date a new boyfriend."
Chen Zhengguo felt that if she didn’t meet Hu Ya’s expectations, she might leave her anytime.
"Didn’t you just establish your relationship? Why does it feel like you’re talking about marriage?" Yan Xiwan asked curiously.
"Yeah, Number Two, what’s going on?" Pei Wushuang asked curiously.
Hu Ya sighed and didn’t speak. Chen Zhengguo smiled bitterly. "Let me explain. Hu Ya and I are from the same high school. Back then, I liked Hu Ya, and she had feelings for me too. But my parents didn’t allow it and did some bad things, so Hu Ya left directly.
Later, during the college entrance exam, I knew Hu Ya applied to the Capital, so I applied there too. Although we weren’t in the same school, I believed fate would bring us together. At the last university joint social event, I tried to look for her, and found out she was at the Capital Medical University."
Yan Xiwan widened her eyes. After a while, she said, "Your story feels quite melodramatic."
"It is melodramatic," Hu Ya sighed. "Honestly, given my personality, if your parents didn’t agree, I shouldn’t have associated with you. But this feeling came, and it’s hard to cut off."
"Silly, idiot," Yan Xiwan said.
"Pretentious," Pan Hongmei said with disdain. "Feelings are yours. Although marriage isn’t just about two people, but two families, having feelings allows you to face future difficulties together. These difficulties aren’t that hard now."
"Hmm, from what Brother-in-law said, it seems Number Two’s mother-in-law is a bit difficult, but the father-in-law is settled," Yan Xiwan said.
"What father-in-law and mother-in-law? We’re not married yet," Hu Ya reminded.
"Sooner or later," Yan Xiwan waved her hand, indicating they would be together soon.
Well, although these words weren’t very pleasant to hear, Hu Ya found that what Pan Hongmei and Yan Xiwan said had some truth.
After speaking, Yan Xiwan looked at Ouyang Tianyun. "Brother Tianyun, did I say anything wrong?"
"No," Ouyang Tianyun smiled, then looked at Chen Zhengguo. "Actually, this is your family’s matter, and we shouldn’t interfere. But I must clarify one thing: the link between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law issues is always the man who is both husband and son. If this man finds handling such things troublesome, he’d better not marry."
Chen Zhengguo nodded, understanding. "I know. I will handle my mom’s issue. Actually, my dad has agreed. Since both Hu Ya and I are college students now, she doesn’t worry about us. It’s just that my mom has a hurdle in her heart. Don’t worry, it will pass."
