Chapter 174: Showing One's True Colors
Teacher Zhou’s teaching methods were not as advanced as those of modern teachers, but she was very careful when choosing class leaders. Usually, many homeroom teachers preferred girls for the monitor position because young girls tended to be more obedient. However, Teacher Zhou chose a boy, believing that boys often spoke with more authority. Consequently, the vice-monitor position naturally fell to a girl.
Being a monitor required someone with strong organizational skills, so finding an excellent candidate was not easy.
Zhu Yanyi felt indifferent about the role. After all, the monitor handled the major issues. Her role as vice-monitor was essentially just assisting the teacher with a few lessons. She said, "I can be the vice-monitor, but my responsibilities should be lighter. I don't like managing every little detail. How about this? My duties will be teaching, tutoring, and planning some activities. I won't take on other management tasks."
Upon hearing this, Teacher Zhou’s eyes lit up. Children these days didn't understand what management really meant. For class leaders, it mostly meant following the teacher's instructions and leading by example. Although Zhu Yanyi claimed she disliked management, her words suggested she was actually quite capable in that area. Poor Zhu Yanyi had no idea that she was speaking the truth. In her past life, she truly wasn't good at management. She had only seen it often enough to speak casually about it, forgetting that a six-year-old child wouldn't normally have such insights.
"Fine, but you will be responsible for both study and activities," Teacher Zhou agreed. She was relieved to have someone take on the work. She also wanted to test Zhu Yanyi’s abilities. If Zhu Yanyi proved to be truly capable, she could be recommended for a leadership role in the school’s Young Pioneers brigade in third grade.
This was also Zhu Yanyi’s goal. Although there were some misunderstandings, the objective was similar. Zhu Yanyi agreed because she wanted to join the Young Pioneers brigade. Don’t believe the nonsense that truly talented people don’t compete. If they didn’t strive, how would anyone know their names? So, ignore the misleading tropes in novels. Zhu Yanyi’s life had been reset. Since she aimed to be a top student, she wanted to be a perfect one. She didn’t want people to think she was only good at studying but foolish in other areas.
The third period in the afternoon was the class meeting. Teacher Zhou appeared with a smile. "Classmates, starting this week, Zhu Yanyi will host our class meetings. Let’s welcome Zhu Yanyi to the stage."
Although school had only started less than a month ago, the students of Class (3) already admired Zhu Yanyi greatly after several tutoring sessions. They felt confident in their math scores, and even their parents were amazed by their renewed enthusiasm for learning. Thus, the name Zhu Yanyi was already well-known, though they hadn’t seen her lead a class yet.
When the students heard that Zhu Yanyi would host the class meeting, they felt excited. If she could make math so interesting, the class meeting would surely be fun.
Zhu Yanyi walked to the podium, and Teacher Zhou stepped out. She didn’t interfere, though she was actually hiding in the corner, eavesdropping.
Zhu Yanyi scanned the class. "Classmates, class meetings usually involve games. I want to play a game too. This is a game we can play during class meetings and also in our daily lives."
"What game?" many students asked.
Zhu Yanyi smiled and said, "I named this game 'Dialogue'."
