Chapter 430: Visiting Sister
Zhu Yanyi truly did not care. Such things were normal. Things were better now, at least. Children of officials, the wealthy, and military families had to take exams to enter high school and university. They had to meet the score lines. In later times, some places built special schools for these children. They separated commoners from the elite. People said everyone was equal, but equality often disappeared as things developed.
Cheng Chen was just talking. With his background, he was also from an official family. Although his family was not a major power in the capital, they were famous in Sicheng Town, Yao City, and Yong City. His connections were strong. Otherwise, Cheng Chen would not have come to Yao City for primary school.
"The environment here is nice," Cheng Chen said, looking at the playground opposite. Her eyes shone. Zhu Yanyi thought she said this because the playground was large. "I think you feel this way because the playground is big."
Cheng Chen laughed dryly. "Since you know, keep it secret. Do not tell anyone. Otherwise, my dad will spank me again." Cheng Chen was active. A larger playground meant more space to play.
Zhu Yanyi laughed. Cheng Chen was growing up, but her personality was becoming more mischievous. She often made Cheng Baokun angry enough to spank her. But she did not care. She forgot the lesson quickly. She only did what she wanted.
"I will not tell anyone," Zhu Yanyi said. "I want you to protect me in middle and high school. You are my brother."
Cheng Chen nodded happily. "That is the right way to think."
Zhu Yanyi and Cheng Chen walked around briefly. Near the end of class, they arrived at the door of Class 2, Grade 10. When the bell rang, students came out. Zhu Yanli came out too. She smiled when she saw them.
"Let’s go. I will take you out to eat."
Every school had a cafeteria. But cafeterias only provided dishes, not rice. Students had to steam their own rice. Zhu Yanli had steamed rice, but only enough for herself. So she did not go to get it. She would steam rice again in the afternoon for dinner. Rice steamed twice tasted worse, but it was enough to fill the stomach.
Zhu Yanyi did not stand on ceremony. "Sister, do you know the area well?"
"Not really," Zhu Yanli said with a smile. "Dad took me to register and we ate lunch nearby before leaving. So I know where to eat."
"Then let’s eat outside."
At noon, some students went home to eat. Others who did not steam rice also needed to eat. It was normal for students to go out. As long as they were not late for afternoon classes, no one stopped them.
Zhu Yanli led Zhu Yanyi and Cheng Chen to a nearby noodle shop. They ate noodles. For them, being full was enough. They did not care much about the type of staple food.
Zhu Yanli ordered vegetable and egg noodles. Zhu Yanyi ordered pickled vegetable and shredded pork noodles. Cheng Chen ordered braised pork noodles. The bowls were large. The three of them began to eat.
