"Okay, I’ve got it," Miao Kai continued.
Zhu Yanyi saw that the instructions were clear. She tidied up her tools and left the operating room. Other staff would handle the cleanup and the student’s follow-up care.
As she stepped out, Yan Hongyi approached. "How did it go?"
Zhu Yanyi replied calmly, "It was just a bullet. No need to panic. I bought some time for treatment on the playground. Now that the bullet is out, she’ll be fine after some rest."
"You can actually perform surgery?" Staff Officer Yang looked curious.
Zhu Yanyi glanced at her. "If I step in, it means I’m qualified. What do you mean by that? Do you think I’m playing house? Even if I were playing, I wouldn’t use a human life as a toy."
"Student Zhu Yanyi, please don’t be angry. Staff Officer Yang spoke out of turn. I apologize for her," Yan Hongyi said quickly. She felt a chill and looked at Yang. "Staff Officer Yang, some curiosities are better left unchecked. It won’t benefit you to ask."
Yang was startled and laughed nervously. "No, no. I was just speaking casually. I meant no harm."
"Hope it was just casual talk." Elder Yao arrived. She had gone out to see an old friend and returned to hear about the shooting at the military medical school. She knew Zhu Yanyi was in surgery. She trusted her skills but came to check anyway. She had just heard Yang’s comment.
"Elder Yao," Yan Hongyi greeted him.
"Grandpa Yao, why are you here?" Zhu Yanyi smiled.
"Are you tired from the surgery?" Elder Yao looked at her kindly.
Zhu Yanyi shook her head. "It was a small surgery. I was in there for forty minutes, but that was mostly waiting for Nurse Manager Miao. The actual surgery took about twenty minutes. Not tiring at all."
Elder Yao smiled. "Your speed is getting faster."
"It’s okay. Just one gunshot wound, not in a dangerous spot. But post-op care needs attention. Gunshots are serious," Zhu Yanyi said. Then she added, "By the way, Grandpa Yao, I have something to tell you."
Elder Yao patted her hand. "Let’s go to my practice chamber." she turned to Yan Hongyi. "Make sure to investigate thoroughly. This school must be safe."
Yan Hongyi sighed bitterly. He hadn’t expected someone to attack him like that. He had been too quiet for too long.
Regardless of his thoughts, the incident had happened and needed handling. Fortunately, the students at the military medical school were brave. Though some were scared, they relaxed once they heard the injured student was out of danger.
Back in Dorm 403, the girls were full of surprise. They knew Zhu Yanyi knew medicine, but they never imagined her skills were so high.
"I thought Zhu Yanyi just liked medicine as a hobby. I didn’t know she could use gold needles," Hui Junlan said, admiring her. She tried to imagine the technique but felt she could never learn it.
"Are gold needles hard to use?" Luo Kun asked. "I don’t know medicine, but I thought the movements looked beautiful."
