Yan Aohan was delighted that Zhu Yanyi had put so much effort into choosing a gift for him, but he still felt a pang of sympathy for her hard work.
Zhu Yanyi shook her head slightly. "No, if it’s not right, I won’t buy it." She paused, thinking for a moment, then said, "Come on, let’s look at the shops ahead. If we still can’t find anything, I’ll just go get a thousand-year-old ginseng root for you." If she couldn’t find a suitable gift, giving ginseng was better. She had plenty of it in her Ruyi Space, though it wouldn’t feel as personal.
Yan Aohan listened, amused and slightly exasperated. "Don’t talk like a rich boss. If people heard you, they’d be so jealous. You’re treating a thousand-year-old ginseng like a backup plan."
"I have lots of it," Zhu Yanyi said casually. "Didn’t I tell you? There’s too much of it there."
"You didn’t mention it, but let’s keep it with you for now," Yan Aohan said helplessly. He knew that if he ever really needed it, Zhu Yanyi would definitely give it to him.
Zhu Yanyi smiled and walked into an antique shop ahead. "This shop must be new. I passed by here before the New Year, and it wasn’t here then."
"The little girl is right. We opened on the sixth day of the lunar new year," a shop assistant said, stepping out with a gentle smile and a very polite attitude.
Zhu Yanyi’s eyes lit up. "Let’s take a look. Maybe we’ll find the perfect gift for you."
"Alright," Yan Aohan said with a helpless smile, his eyes full of affection. He decided to let Zhu Yanyi enjoy herself. As long as she was happy, it was fine.
Zhu Yanyi ignored Yan Aohan. She knew he wouldn’t pick anything good anyway, so she preferred to choose herself. She browsed slowly. The shop had many antiques, though half were replicas. Even the replicas were exquisite.
Zhu Yanyi wasn’t short of money, so she wouldn’t buy fakes, but that didn’t stop her from looking. Before she knew it, she stopped at a counter. She saw something that made her pause. It was a black stone. The stone’s aura seemed cold and indifferent, revealing nothing, but its shape resembled a miniature book. There was a line of text carved on it, very small and faint, hard to read. However, Zhu Yanyi felt that this stone matched Yan Aohan’s aura perfectly.
She asked the assistant, "Excuse me, what is this?"
The assistant came over, looked at it, and smiled. "This is a stone found at an ancient site. We don’t know exactly what it is, but we know it’s an antique."
"How much is it?" Zhu Yanyi asked. The more she looked at it, the more she felt it was suitable for Yan Aohan.
"We don’t know what it is, but since it’s an antique, it costs twelve hundred," the assistant said.
"Wrap it up for me. I’ll take it," Zhu Yanyi said directly.
The assistant smiled and agreed. She took the stone, wrapped it, and handed it to Zhu Yanyi. Zhu Yanyi counted out the money and gave it to the assistant. Then she turned around and saw Yan Aohan looking thoughtful. "What’s wrong?"
Yan Aohan smiled gently. "Is this for me?" It was a question, but his eyes showed certainty.
Zhu Yanyi nodded slightly and handed the item directly to Yan Aohan. "I was planning to give it to you in a few days since you didn’t see it. But since you saw it now, here it is. I’ve been busy these days, and I was worried I’d forget."
Yan Aohan smiled and accepted it. Then he held Zhu Yanyi’s hand and said as they walked, "Now that today’s task is done, where do you want to go play next?"
