"Who ate meat? I’m on a diet lately." Zheng Feier stood up, checking her figure from side to side. "My shape is fine, but I gained a bit over the New Year. So I must lose weight."
Zhu Yanyi laughed heartily at this. Chen Jiaojiao, standing nearby, spoke up. "Zheng Feier, you should learn from me. Eat big bites of meat, drink big cups of wine. Food and wine pass through the gut, but life remains free and happy."
Luo Kun pointed at Chen Jiaojiao. "Do you think everyone is like you?" She then turned to Zhu Yanyi. "This girl went drinking with her older brother in the army during the New Year. She has a weak stomach. She drank one cup and passed out. The whole compound knows about it."
Zhu Yanyi paused slightly. "You are seventeen after the New Year, not yet eighteen. You should not drink. It is bad for your growing body."
Luo Kun smiled at Chen Jiaojiao. "Did you hear? Drinking is bad."
Chen Jiaojiao argued, "I think drinking is great. In TV shows, couples drink wedding wine. I checked history. People married at fifteen in ancient times."
"Hmm." Zhu Yanyi glanced at Chen Jiaojiao. "Do you know how long people lived back then? Generally, women living to fifty was considered long-lived. Many died in their forties. Some died in their twenties or thirties. Is that good or bad? Our country changed the marriage age because fifteen is too young. Girls are not fully grown. Marrying then harms them. After eighteen, a girl’s body is fully developed. I am a doctor. You should listen to me."
Zhu Yanyi was always strict about health. Chen Jiaojiao was stunned by her bossy tone. After a moment, she said, "Okay. I won’t drink anymore."
Just as they were chatting, someone shouted from outside the classroom. "Help! Someone is jumping off the building!"
Jumping? What was happening? Zhu Yanyi and the others were stunned. They rushed out with the crowd. In the open space outside, they looked up. A girl stood on the edge of the third-floor roof. She looked like she might jump at any moment.
"What is going on?" Luo Kun asked someone nearby.
"That is a senior student," said Hong Ming, the class monitor. she knew the details. "She was dating a boy from a vocational school. she was arrested. She is upset and wants to jump."
"It’s just a man. Why make such a fuss?" Luo Kun despised such behavior.
"The principal is here!" someone shouted. Indeed, the principal, the academic director, and the senior student’s homeroom teacher arrived. They looked up at the girl on the roof.
"Did you call the police?" the principal asked calmly. The academic director nodded. "Yes. They should be here soon." she looked at the roof again. "Principal, this is too dangerous. If she falls, it will be a disaster."
The principal understood but felt helpless. He spoke up first. "Student, please sit down and talk. Do not be so desperate. Your parents sent you to school. If they knew this, they would be very sad."
