Zhu Yanyi did not stay long. She led the injured back to the safe zone. Liu Kunxiong reported to her superiors and ordered strict silence about the incident.
On peaceful days, the sky was clear. After checking on the wounded, Zhu Yanyi walked out to an open area. She looked up at the sky.
The scorched earth looked bleak in the setting sun, yet held a rugged beauty.
Zhu Yanyi sat on a yellow dirt slope. She stared into the distance, her mind empty. She knew she would not see such sights often.
"Miss, Master Yan sent word. He asks when you will return," Luo Gang appeared quietly. Here, he and the others acted as hidden guards, rarely showing themselves.
Zhu Yanyi smiled. "Did Brother Yan hear about yesterday?"
"Master Yan knows. She will handle the higher-ups. But she said you cause too much trouble. She wanted you to keep a low profile, yet you earned the title 'Saintly Demon Doctor.' So, she says you should go back," Luo Gang answered with a grin. Since joining Zhu Yanyi here, she had secretly joined small skirmishes, ambushing rebels to satisfy her battle itch.
Zhu Yanyi nodded. "Brother Luo, when do you think this war will end?"
Luo Gang shook his head. "It won’t end soon. There are too many factions and conflicts. But once the rebels are crushed, tensions will ease." Surface battles would not waste lives if the rebels were gone. Then, the peacekeeping forces would no longer be involved.
"How long to crush the rebels?" Zhu Yanyi asked. "I don’t know strategy, but you do."
Luo Gang thought for a moment. "The hardest part isn’t the war, but the terrorist base. If we destroy that base, the war will reach its peak." Having studied the conflict closely, he shared what he knew.
Zhu Yanyi nodded slightly. "Is the terrorist base dangerous?"
"It is too mysterious. The International Peace Organization has sent countless agents to destroy it, but all failed. It has truly become a terrorist stronghold," Luo Gang explained quickly. "The base lies in the center of a nearby desert oasis. It is strange. A ring of oasis water surrounds it like a moat. Inside is a large oasis, at least the size of a small town. This layout makes it feel like an isolated island. Therefore, defense is very easy."
Zhu Yanyi tilted her head, listening. "Isolation is the best defense. The location is excellent."
A thought formed in her mind. She realized she needed to visit this terrorist base herself.
