The news reached the embassy quickly. General Roth had returned and made a call. The country’s leadership learned that the young Chinese healer had cured his lung cancer.
People in that country were proud, but they could not hide everything. General Roth’s illness was a major secret. Their best doctors had tried everything and failed. Now, hearing he was cured felt like an impossible truth.
They wanted General Roth back immediately. They needed to check him personally to see if he was lying.
Zhu Yanyi heard the news too. She did not care. Even if they checked her, she was truly fine.
These days, Zhu Yanyi spent her free time refining materials. She was preparing to craft new eyes and a tongue for Zhu Shenfu.
Although they were not born with her, her crafted parts would work well if made correctly. This required high-grade Ice Blue fire. Zhu Yanyi realized this and focused on upgrading the fire’s level.
There were two ways to upgrade Strange Fire. One was to devour other fires.
Finding Ice Blue was a lucky accident. Other fires were rare, so she could not rely on that method.
The second way was to refine materials and herbs constantly. This improved the fire’s quality.
Zhu Yanyi often used Ice Blue when making medicine. Its level had risen, but it was still not strong enough for crafting eyes and tongues. She needed more practice to speed up the upgrade.
She was glad to have the Ruyi Space. Most of the upgrading happened there.
To help Ice Blue grow, Zhu Yanyi entered the space whenever she was free. She refined many medicines. Soon, the space was full of pills.
Most of these pills were made from herbs in the space. She kept them there and did not plan to use them outside unless absolutely necessary.
One day, feeling she had practiced enough, Zhu Yanyi left the space. Her stomach rumbled. She walked out of her room and headed to the kitchen.
“Second Sister, you are out,” Zhu Zhibin said, coming out of the kitchen with a bowl of big wontons.
Zhu Yanyi looked at her. “Out of what? I was not secluded. I was just studying materials. If I secluded myself, who would check Grandpa’s health every day?”
Zhu Zhibin nodded. “Then why are you out now?”
“Do you think only you get hungry?” she said, walking into the kitchen.
Xie Xinlian had already cooked another bowl. “Take this one. I will cook more for your grandparents.”
Zhu Yanyi took the bowl without hesitation. She sat in the dining room and took two bites.
Yan Aohan walked in. Seeing her eat, he approached. “News from Zhu City. The Zhu family there has a sudden illness. Black plum-shaped spots appeared on everyone’s faces. Their hair is falling out fast. They fear it is a contagious germ. Zhu City has restricted entry and exit. People from the capital will likely come to you soon.”
“So fast?” Zhu Yanyi was surprised. But she felt happy. She knew the medicine she made would work.
“You knew this would happen. Why complain about the speed?” Yan Aohan took her spoon and shared her bowl.
“Did you not eat?” Zhu Yanyi asked, seeing her state.
“No. I was busy today,” she said, finishing her bowl.
Zhu Yanyi stood up. “I will cook you a bowl. You are not full.” She was still hungry too.
“Okay,” Yan Aohan nodded. “I will help wash the green onions.”
In the kitchen, Xie Xinlian had finished the bowls for Zhu Shenfu and Huang Meiying. Seeing them, she smiled. “Cook for yourselves. I am going to the hospital.”
“Be careful on the road, Mama,” Zhu Yanyi said.
“I know,” Xie Xinlian smiled and left with the thermos.
Zhu Yanyi cooked two more bowls. One for Yan Aohan, one for herself.
Yan Aohan ate slowly this time. He chatted while eating. “Also, the second set of fusion armor is ready. I will take you to see it tomorrow afternoon.”
Zhu Yanyi was slightly surprised. “So fast?”
Yan Aohan smiled. “It is not that fast. The first set was experimental, so it took time. The second set had a foundation, so it was quicker. There will be third and fourth sets. But we will only make ten for men and five for women. Even then, we may not find enough people. Most people’s bodies cannot handle it.”
Zhu Yanyi nodded. “Oh, I almost forgot. The improved energy powder is almost ready. I was busy refining other things and forgot to tell you.”
Yan Aohan was not surprised. When Zhu Yanyi focused on something, she did it wholeheartedly.
Zhu Zhibin had left during their second meal. He did not want to watch them show affection.
After a short chat, Zhu Yanyi’s phone rang. It was an unknown number. She frowned but answered. “Hello?”
“Yanyi, it is Hun Junlan.”
“Junlan? Why are you calling? Did you leave school?” Zhu Yanyi knew she was now at the Military Medical University.
“No, Yanyi. I am asking for help. My father has a dangerous illness. Our family is very worried. His face was ruined overnight. He seems very sick. I can only ask you for help.” Hun Junlan’s voice was panicked.
Zhu Yanyi thought for a moment. “Where are you? Are you in the capital?”
“Yes, in the capital. There are no good doctors in our hometown. My mother brought him here. I asked my mentor, but he said there is no cure. So I am begging you.”
