Zhu Yanyi and Yan Aohan arrived at the entrance of the Capital Hospital. Gu Jingtian was already waiting there, holding a basket of apricots in each hand.
Gu Jingtian looked helpless. "I never thought someone would tamper with apricots."
Zhu Yanyi smiled slightly. "Not all the apricots are bad. Some are fine. So I suspect the poison was injected later, or mixed in by someone."
Gu Jingtian said, "Let’s go check. We need to find out exactly how many are affected."
Zhu Yanyi nodded. She and Gu Jingtian entered the lab to test the apricots. Soon, they found that about one-fifth were contaminated.
"Good that it’s not all of them. But one-fifth is still suspicious," Zhu Yanyi frowned slightly. "This means the poisoning wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment act. It was planned. Did the person who sent the apricots know?"
"What kind of person was your patient?" Zhu Yanyi asked Gu Jingtian.
Gu Jingtian sighed. "He was an honest man. He stayed here for half a month. After recovering, he thanked me and left. He said he brought some local specialties from home. His apricot trees were ripe, so he picked two baskets for me."
Zhu Yanyi found this strange. "Based on what you said, how close were you to this patient?"
"I really trust this patient," Gu Jingtian rubbed his temples. "You know I usually don’t accept gifts from patients. I don’t think he would harm me."
Zhu Yanyi knew Gu Jingtian had good judgment. "So, it’s likely she was used or framed by someone else."
"Yes," Gu Jingtian nodded. That was certain.
Zhu Yanyi tilted her head. "If she was used, who used her? Two baskets mean over a hundred apricots. Even if only one-fifth are poisoned, that’s more than twenty. It takes time to inject each one. At least two or three minutes per fruit. That’s point one. Point two: if the patient didn’t know the apricots were bad, what was the framer’s goal?"
"Little Junior Sister, you’re saying a lot, but I still don’t know the truth. I can’t figure it out right now," Gu Jingtian said helplessly.
Zhu Yanyi laughed. "It’s okay. Aohan is here. She has already sent people to investigate."
"That’s good." Gu Jingtian knew Yan Aohan’s abilities. If he was handling it, there was no need to worry.
Yan Aohan said, "Dean Gu, please give me the patient’s information. It will help my team work faster."
"Sure." Gu Jingtian went to his practice chamber and quickly returned with a piece of paper. "Here is the patient’s address, name, and contact info."
Yan Aohan took it and nodded. He turned to Zhu Yanyi. "We can only do so much for today. I’ll take you home first, then continue the investigation. We should have news soon."
"Okay." Zhu Yanyi nodded. With the test results out, she hoped this was just an accident.
Yan Aohan sent Zhu Yanyi home first, then began the investigation. However, before the results came in, more patients were brought to the Capital Hospital, claiming food poisoning.
After examining the new patients, Gu Jingtian was shocked. She immediately called Zhu Yanyi to come down and help diagnose.
Zhu Yanyi arrived at the emergency room. The poisoned patients were children from a kindergarten. After waking up in the afternoon, they had snacks: a piece of cake and a small apple. Within half an hour, they all collapsed.
Seeing this, Zhu Yanyi remembered the butterfly transformation incident at Red Star Kindergarten years ago. In this world, Zhu Yanyi hated most when people harmed children.
But she had no time for other thoughts. She and Gu Jingtian started saving the children immediately.
"There are thirty-one poisoned children, all from the same class," an emergency doctor said.
Zhu Yanyi knew time was short. She told Gu Jingtian directly, "Put all thirty-one children in one place. I will treat them all at once using the Withered Wood Revives acupuncture technique."
Gu Jingtian nodded slightly. She knew only Zhu Yanyi could treat so many people at once. She ordered the staff to gather the children. Since they were small, four children could fit on one bed, using eight beds in total.
Zhu Yanyi saw this and said, "Separate some children. Use nine beds."
Nine was the best number, representing completeness.
Gu Jingtian nodded and adjusted the arrangement. Soon, nine beds were lined up in front of Zhu Yanyi.
Because the nine beds took up a large area, they were placed in the lobby downstairs. Naturally, this attracted many onlookers.
Everyone knew the Little Divine Doctor was going to treat thirty-one children at once. They came to watch, not doubting her skill, but out of curiosity.
Zhu Yanyi ignored the onlookers. Security guards maintained order, but she remained vigilant just in case.
She opened her acupuncture kit. It was a large custom-made kit from Yan Aohan, containing 810 gold needles. To the onlookers, it looked like a sea of golden light.
Zhu Yanyi’s hands moved quickly. Her ten fingers danced, and the golden needles seemed to find their targets automatically, piercing the children’s acupoints.
As the needles entered, the room seemed to turn into a golden ocean.
The stimulation of the golden light caused black liquid to slowly flow from the children’s hands. This was the poison leaving their bodies.
Twenty minutes later, Zhu Yanyi removed the needles. She told Gu Jingtian, "Senior Brother, write a detoxification and recovery prescription. Let the children take it to clear remaining toxins and heal their damaged organs."
"Okay." Gu Jingtian went to write the prescription.
Zhu Yanyi had the nurses push the children away. Then, she went to the area where the poison was collected. Carefully, she used a cotton swab to dip into the black liquid in the basin. She smelled it slightly, and her expression changed. She asked the people nearby, "Did those children eat any fruit?"
"I’m not sure. I’ll call the teacher who brought them over. You can ask her," a nurse said, rushing to find the teacher.
