Chapter 1335
Xie Zhong added, "By the way, the engagement date is set, but we haven't met the in-laws yet. I heard from Ani's dad that you only contacted them by phone. In reality, we need to sit down and talk properly.
'Aohan, don't ignore your parents. A marriage without parental blessing is very bad for your partner.' Xie Zhong earnestly advised Yan Aohan.
Yan Aohan smiled. He understood Xie Zhong's concern—that he worried Yan Aohan’s parents might not accept Zhu Yanyi. Even if he didn't mind, he wouldn't want Zhu Yanyi to feel wronged. "Grandpa, how could I ignore my parents for such a big matter? I’ve already called them. After the New Year, I’ll bring Ani to meet them. My mom has wanted to meet Ani for a long time, but Ani was too busy, so I held her back."
"You shouldn't neglect your mother just to consider Ani." Although Xie Zhong was satisfied that Yan Aohan valued Zhu Yanyi, he still emphasized filial piety.
Zhu Yanyi smiled and assured Xie Zhong, "Grandpa, rest assured. After the New Year, when we return to the capital, the first thing I’ll do is visit Uncle and Aunt Yan."
"Hmm, that is indeed important. Just keep it in mind," Xie Zhong said with a smile, then sighed, "Time flies. In a blink, both you and An'an have partners."
"Grandpa, you’re sighing? I’m the one who should be sighing," said Zhu Zhibin, walking into Xie Zhong’s soft sleeper compartment while biting into a soy sauce duck leg.
"Oh?" Xie Zhong looked curious. "What are you sighing about?"
"Grandpa, you don’t know," Zhu Zhibin pointed at Zhu Yanyi. "When I first found out about my eldest sister and brother-in-law, I told my second sister. She said she’d handle it. I really believed her then."
Zhu Zhibin took another big bite of the duck leg. "But when I finally finished my work and came home, I was told my eldest sister was getting married. Fine, she’s someone else’s now, so let her marry. But then I was told my second sister also has a partner and is getting engaged soon. I don’t get it. How did she handle things so badly that she got involved herself?"
"What are you saying?" Zhu Yanyi tapped Zhu Zhibin’s head.
"Second Sister, don’t hit my head! It’s precious. If you make me stupid, you’re responsible!" Zhu Zhibin glared at Zhu Yanyi, then turned to Yan Aohan. "Future Brother-in-Law, control your wife. She’s so fierce; she’ll turn into a tigress. Be careful you can’t handle her later."
Yan Aohan chuckled softly. "Ani is fine. I like all her personalities." Seeing Zhu Zhibin pout, he smiled again. This little brother-in-law couldn’t be offended. "Doumiao, after the New Year, I’ll take you target shooting. You said your marksmanship improved, but you had nowhere to practice. I’ll take you then."
"Really?" As a boy, his eyes lit up at the mention of shooting. "Brother-in-Law, you said it. You can’t forget, no matter what."
"I won’t forget," Yan Aohan smiled.
Zhu Zhibin nodded satisfactorily. "Although I think you’re suffering with my second sister, thinking about it, if you didn’t take her, no one else would treasure her given her personality. So I’ll reluctantly accept you."
"Thank you for that," Yan Aohan laughed.
Zhu Yanyi hit Zhu Zhibin’s head again. "What are you saying? Is my second sister’s market value that low? Can’t I find another man without her?"
"Ani," Yan Aohan’s face showed slight displeasure.
Zhu Yanyi realized she’d spoken wrong. It seemed Yan Aohan was jealous again. She stuck out her tongue. "I was just joking. It means nothing. Really." She raised her hands to swear.
Yan Aohan wasn’t angry. He smiled gently at Xie Zhong. "Grandpa, I’ll take Ani out to talk properly."
"Go ahead. Doumiao, come play chess with Grandpa." Xie Zhong didn’t fear lacking an opponent and grabbed Zhu Zhibin as a substitute.
Yan Aohan held Zhu Yanyi’s hand and left Xie Zhong’s compartment.
"Grandpa, how do you think Future Brother-in-Law will punish Second Sister?" Zhu Zhibin asked quietly, clearly enjoying the show.
Xie Zhong smiled. "Why does a child like you care so much?"
Zhu Zhibin snorted. "Grandpa, don’t pretend. I know." A hint of pride appeared on his face. "My two brothers-in-law are top-notch outside, but I found they’re henpecked, just like my dad."
"That’s good," Xie Zhong placed a chess piece. "Your turn."
"Grandpa, how can that be good? Don’t you think it’s embarrassing for men?"
"You’re a kid with no hair on your face. Where do you get so much concern for men’s dignity?" Xie Zhong didn’t look up. "Besides, a good man spoils his wife. Your dad does well, and your two brothers-in-law do too."
"I’ll definitely find a wife who listens to me in the future," Zhu Zhibin thought Zhu Shun Yao, Taishu Yuanxiang, and Yan Aohan were all embarrassing.
Xie Zhong chuckled. "You’ll only be thirteen after the New Year, and you’re thinking about a wife? I think you should say this to your mom and see if you’ve been messing around outside."
"Am I that kind of person?" Zhu Zhibin panicked. "Grandpa, don’t frame me! I absolutely haven’t messed around."
Xie Zhong chuckled again and placed a piece. "Chess. Play chess."
Yan Aohan took Zhu Yanyi out to "talk properly." No one knew how they communicated, but when Zhu Yanyi came out, her face was red. However, since it didn’t take long, the adults pretended not to notice.
When they got off the train in Yao City, Zhu Yanyi stretched. "Great! Finally, no train adventures this time?"
"Let’s go. Haifeng is here to pick us up." Yan Aohan had already contacted Zhang Haifeng, who drove a small minibus to meet them.
After getting on, Zhang Haifeng drove them directly to Fourth City Town. First, they dropped Xie Zhong and Qi Qiao’er off at the Xie family home. After leaving the local specialties, they didn’t eat there but went straight home.
Zhang Haifeng had lived at the Zhu family home for years, so the house was always cleaned. Knowing Zhu Shun Yao and others were returning, help had already arrived to clean, and all the quilts had been aired out. The rooms were very clean.
