Chapter 1489
Zhu Yanli stood nearby, nodding in agreement. "Mom is right. Our family must stay safe. If anyone bleeds, let it be someone else."
Just then, Zhu Shunyao’s phone rang. He answered it, paused, and said, "Grandpa, you’re in Beijing? I’ll come pick you up."
On the other end was Xie Zhong. He had seen the news about Zhu Yanyi and learned that Zhu Zhibin was hurt. Worried, he had asked Xie Shengyu to accompany him.
"No need. We’ll take a taxi. Just wait for us at the hospital entrance," Xie Zhong said directly.
Xie Zhong was not stingy with money. He viewed wealth openly. Although unfamiliar with Beijing, he knew the hospitals well, having been hospitalized there before. Taking a taxi was no problem.
"Be careful, Grandpa. Who is with you?" Zhu Shunyao asked, still worried.
"Shengyu is with me. Don’t worry. We’ll talk more at the hospital," Xie Zhong said before hanging up.
Zhu Shunyao put down the phone. Xie Xinlian said, "Grandpa is here."
Zhu Shunyao nodded. "He probably saw the announcement on TV and learned Doumiao was hurt. He booked train tickets immediately."
Zhu Yanyi frowned slightly. "Grandpa bought train tickets himself. He likely got a hard sleeper. Soft sleepers are hard to get. Let’s have him rest in our courtyard house first when he arrives."
Zhu Yanyi and Zhu Shunyao’s courtyard house was not far from the Beijing Hospital, only three bus stops away. With cars available, it was convenient. They had been rotating rest between the hospital and the courtyard.
"Okay, let’s go to the courtyard," Zhu Shunyao agreed.
Yan Aohan spoke up. "Dad, because of Ani, people near your small villa might become restless. I will arrange special personnel in some nearby houses. They won’t interfere with your daily life. This is to prevent anyone from prying into your affairs. If you see people moving in, ignore them."
Zhu Shunyao looked surprised. "Little Yan, tell me the truth. Does us living there cause you trouble?"
"Not at all," Yan Aohan said calmly. "Those houses were my property. I usually rented them out. After you and Mom moved in, I gradually took control of the area to protect you. Now that Doumiao is Ani’s brother, although I controlled your information, I wanted to be safe. So, I took back some houses and arranged for people to secretly protect you. I’m just letting you know. They won’t disturb you. If you meet them, just treat them as neighbors."
"That’s good," Zhu Shunyao nodded, relieved. As long as it didn’t bring danger to Yan Aohan and Zhu Yanyi, she was fine with it.
About five minutes later, Zhu Shunyao and Taishu Yuanxiang returned. Zhu Shunyao supported Xie Zhong in front, while Taishu Yuanxiang helped with luggage and accompanied Xie Shengyu.
"Grandpa," Zhu Zhibin tried to sit up.
Xie Zhong glared at her. "You’re injured, yet you’re still careless. Just lie down." Then she looked at Zhu Yanyi. "Is Doumiao okay?"
"She’s fine. We are observing for infection. If there is no infection, she can be discharged in a few days," Zhu Yanyi answered with a smile. "Actually, you should have called before leaving. You didn’t need to rush. But since you are here, stay for a while. You are retired, so enjoy your time here."
"I won’t stay long. Your grandma is still at home," Xie Zhong said, relieved. He was in a better mood now.
Xie Shengyu sighed helplessly. "When Doumiao got hurt, Grandpa had no mood to speak. He was silent all the way. I didn’t dare to breathe loudly."
Xie Zhong said, "I was worried. Doumiao is so young. If he gets a scar on his face, it might affect his future."
Although Zhu Zhibin was destined for mathematics, a facial scar could lead to discrimination in some places. Xie Zhong’s concern was valid.
Zhu Yanyi giggled. "Grandpa, don’t worry. I have some skills in medicine. One scar is nothing. Even a few more would be fine."
"One scar is enough to break our hearts, and you want more? You don’t think before you speak," Xie Zhong tapped Zhu Yanyi’s head with a finger.
Zhu Yanyi dodged and hid behind Yan Aohan. "Doumiao caused the trouble. If you want to settle scores, go after her. Why blame me? I’m innocent."
"Go away. Who told you to speak foolishly?" Xie Zhong scolded playfully. His worry vanished seeing Zhu Yanyi’s relaxed attitude. He knew Zhu Zhibin’s injury was not serious.
Zhu Yanyi noticed a hint of fatigue between Xie Zhong’s brows. "Grandpa, we can talk later. Let Aohan take you to the courtyard to rest. You and Second Uncle need to rest."
"Okay," Xie Zhong nodded. He was tired from the journey and worry.
Zhu Yanyi nodded to Yan Aohan. Yan Aohan rubbed Zhu Yanyi’s head, then picked up the luggage. "Grandpa, let’s go. I’ll take you home."
Xie Zhong and Xie Shengyu followed Yan Aohan back to the courtyard. Xie Xinlian went with them to cook dinner.
Zhu Zhibin said, "I think I’m healed. I don’t need to stay in the hospital." He missed home-cooked food.
Seeing her eyes dart around, Zhu Yanyi knew what she was thinking. "Don’t think about other foods. It’s not time yet. Even after discharge, you cannot eat colored seasonings for at least three months. No brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, or spicy things like chili and Sichuan pepper. You can only eat food made with salt water or rock sugar water."
