Chapter 2121

The next morning, sunlight streamed in. If Zhu Yanyi hadn’t known this was a barrier, she would have thought it was just the outside world. The bright, dazzling light made her squint.

"It’s been snowing or cloudy for so long. Seeing the sun today makes my heart feel light," Zhu Yanyi said, looking up with a warm smile.

Yan Aohan looked at the sun and nodded. "Sunlight is good. No evil spirits can hide from it."

"Strong," Zhu Yanyi said, giving Yan Aohan a thumbs-up.

Everyone packed up and slowly walked toward the Yan residence. They needed to resolve the Yan family matters, but they wouldn’t rush. Rushing too much often caused mistakes.

The Yan residence appeared strict on the surface. People worked in an orderly manner. When Yan Aohan and his group arrived, a man led a team out. "Master, you’re here?"

Yan Aohan nodded. "Prepare four good guest rooms for our honored guests." She then pointed to Zhu Yanyi. "This is my wife. She will stay with me."

She introduced the man to Zhu Yanyi and the others. "This is Yan Chun, the steward here."

While Yan Aohan introduced them, Yan Chun secretly observed Zhu Yanyi and the group. She knew Yan Aohan was engaged, but this was her first time seeing Zhu Yanyi.

For people like them, official registrations meant nothing. Only engagements announced publicly were recognized by noble families.

"Hello, Madam," Yan Chun said respectfully.

Zhu Yanyi nodded with a smile. "Steward Yan, please guide us in the coming days."

"I dare not," Yan Chun bowed his head respectfully.

Yan Aohan turned to Sikong Xuran and the other three. "Follow Steward Yan. I’ll take Ani to wash up and rest. We’ll meet for lunch."

"Okay," Sikong Xuran and the others agreed immediately.

Yan Aohan then said to Zhu Yanyi, "Come, wife. Let me show you my room."

"You haven’t been back for days. Aren’t you afraid your room is covered in dust?" Zhu Yanyi joked.

"No worries," Yan Aohan grinned. "If it’s dirty, you can clean it for me."

"(ˉ▽ ̄~) Tsk~~, I won’t care. I’ll just set up a tent in the room," Zhu Yanyi joked back.

"That works too. I can squeeze into the tent with you," Yan Aohan said seriously.

Zhu Yanyi was speechless. She was clearly a rascal. "Don’t you think that’s too shameless?"

"It doesn’t matter. As long as I don’t think it’s shameless," Yan Aohan grinned.

"Fine," Zhu Yanyi thought it was better not to talk to her. If she continued, she might want to seal her mouth shut.

Yan Aohan winked at her, showing her shameless side. Zhu Yanyi couldn’t help but laugh and cry. They had been married for so long, but this was the first time she saw Yan Aohan like this. It felt novel.

Yan Aohan led Zhu Yanyi to her room.

Well, it was indeed a straight man’s room. Everything was black. Black bed curtains, black bed, even the walls had black paint. Zhu Yanyi looked at Yan Aohan speechlessly. "Why do you like black so much?"

"I thought black was stain-resistant and popular. So I chose it," Yan Aohan smiled. "If you don’t like it, we can change it."

"No need. But since the walls and furniture are black, I’ll adjust other tones. Maybe add a bouquet of flowers or a green plant to decorate."

Zhu Yanyi wasn’t someone who insisted on changing everything. People are flexible. Black is hard to match, but not impossible.

Some say black is a common color. Others say it’s the hardest to match. Regardless, if black is the main tone, other matches need care.

Right now, the all-black room looked eerie. But perhaps because it carried Yan Aohan’s aura, it didn’t look strange. Instead, it felt dignified. This dignity made the black seem more solemn.

"This room could be a courtroom," Zhu Yanyi noted.

Yan Aohan smiled. "I knew you’d come, so I left it like this."

"Interrogating me?" Zhu Yanyi raised an eyebrow.

"How dare I? To show I am pure and desireless," Yan Aohan explained quickly, looking terrified of misunderstanding.

Zhu Yanyi laughed softly. "I was just joking." Then she added, "But one thing is important. Are you sure you can be pure and desireless?"

Yan Aohan paused, then laughed loudly, hugging Zhu Yanyi. "Wife, I understand."

What she understood didn’t matter. What mattered was that at lunch, Zhu Yanyi’s unusual blush showed they had secret activities in the room.

Lunch was set in the first-floor living room. When Yan Aohan and Zhu Yanyi arrived, Sikong Xuran and the other four were already seated.

The dishes were delicious. Yan Aohan helped Zhu Yanyi sit down, then sat herself. "Eat freely. If it’s not enough, I’ll have more made."

Sikong Xuran smiled. "There are over twenty dishes. Enough for six of us."

Yan Aohan confirmed no more food was needed and told Yan Chun to leave. He then set up a casual barrier. "How was the morning tour?"

"Your Yan family looks tight, but lacks warmth," Sikong Xuran spoke first.

"Because it lacks warmth, people feel distant," Yu Qingyun added.

"Distance creates loopholes," Yi Yunfei continued.

"Because of loopholes, your Yan family needs major reform," Ouyang Tianyun concluded.

Yan Aohan nodded slightly. "These years, I ran between the living and dead worlds. Too many things to handle, so I couldn’t manage other matters. I left things to the seven elders here.

But that doesn’t mean some things can be ignored. Clearly, the Yan family has become corrupt in unexpected ways." Yan Aohan’s words held some regret.
