Chapter 2256
"Stop teaching the child bad habits," Zhu Yanyi lightly patted Yan Aohan. "Not everyone has your thick skin."
"Dear, if my skin wasn't thick, I wouldn't have a wife," Yan Aohan said with a grin. After years of loneliness, she was happy to tease her now that they were reunited.
Zhu Yanyi laughed. Four years in the Saint Realm felt like only a year outside, but for her, it was four long years of missing her. Now, she could finally let it all out.
They traveled smoothly through the Saint Realm and entered the Huaxia Realm. They arrived at Kunlun again, but this time, the air felt comforting. It wasn't just the spiritual energy; it was the feeling of being close to home.
Zhu Yanyi changed clothes and took a walk with Yan Aohan around Kunlun, picking some herbs before heading down. At the foot of the mountain, Yan Aohan summoned her car. "I'll pick you up this time. We'll fly back directly."
"Okay," Zhu Yanyi agreed without hesitation.
To keep up appearances, Zhu Yanyi went to the restroom after landing and emerged with a suitcase. Yan Aohan parked the car in a quiet spot and joined her, making it look like she was picking her up.
Beijing was small, and they worried about running into strangers. As expected, right after leaving the airport, they met someone. Or rather, a fake innocent person—Jia Yao.
Jia Yao was a rising star in the entertainment industry. She had come to Beijing for a variety show, hoping to meet wealthy people. She had always envied Zhu Yanyi. While Jia Yao’s family were neighbors to the Cheng family, they ignored her. Zhu Yanyi, a rural girl, became Cheng Baokun’s goddaughter effortlessly. Jia Yao even hoped to win Cheng Chen’s heart, but she never cared for her.
Seeing Zhu Yanyi return, Jia Yao’s face darkened. She looked as if someone owed her money.
"Zhu Yanyi," Jia Yao said coldly.
Zhu Yanyi raised an eyebrow. "Jia Yao, what a coincidence. I didn't expect to meet someone so annoying today."
"I haven't even said I dislike you yet," Jia Yao complained. "Why did you speak first?"
"My mouth is on my face. I speak when I want," Zhu Yanyi said calmly. "I’ve known you dislike me for years, and I dislike you too. No need to make a fuss. I’m leaving. Enjoy your stroll."
Only Zhu Yanyi would speak so directly in a busy airport. She ignored Jia Yao and walked to Yan Aohan’s car.
Once inside, she buckled her seatbelt. "Jia Yao seems to be doing well. Seeing her reminds me of my godparents. I wonder how they are?"
"They’ll be back for our wedding. You can ask them then," Yan Aohan smiled.
Zhu Yanyi nodded. "That makes sense. Honey, drive. Let’s go home."
Yan Aohan chuckled at her playful tone. They returned to the courtyard house, which Zhu Yanyi loved.
"It feels so familiar after years away," Zhu Yanyi said, stretching. "I’m back!"
Yan Aohan smiled and carried her suitcase into the room. "Eat here today or go to my parents' house?"
"Let’s eat here," Zhu Yanyi decided. "I’ll rest and adjust my energy. Tomorrow morning, I’ll visit my parents. In the afternoon, I’ll visit your parents."
As Yan Aohan’s wife, she should visit her parents first.
Yan Aohan agreed. "What do you want for dinner? I’ll cook."
"Stir-fried pine flowers and roast duck," Zhu Yanyi said seriously. "And rice."
"Got it," Yan Aohan said and went to the kitchen.
She cooked stir-fried pine flowers, tomato fish, sweet and sour pork, mushrooms with greens, and a large bowl of pickled mustard green and shredded pork soup. She also bought roast duck.
Zhu Yanyi looked at the table happily. "Husband, I’ve missed your cooking for so long."
Yan Aohan served her some tomato fish. "Eat more if you like it."
Zhu Yanyi ate heartily. Cultivators didn’t need to eat much, but here, she was just Zhu Yanyi, a doctor. She needed to fit in. Since she was born and raised here, it was easy.
After eating two chicken wings, a bowl of rice, fish, pork, greens, and all the stir-fried pine flowers, plus some soup, Zhu Yanyi sighed contentedly. She patted her stomach. "It’s been years. Today was so comfortable. Your cooking is getting better, especially the stir-fried pine flowers. It tastes like my mom’s."
