Chapter 2288
Cheng Chen paused, looking at his mother. "Mom, that’s not right. My brother didn’t marry until he was thirty-three."
Chen Ailian pointed this out very directly. "You’re almost thirty too. Don’t copy everything your brother did. He earned his own living expenses from college. You didn’t."
"I’m only twenty-eight," Cheng Chen said, feeling wronged. "I have five years left until thirty-three. Besides, I’m not lazy. I know how to enjoy life."
Chen Ailian snorted. "You’re really counting that? Your brother was busy. she barely had rest days. You have much more free time than her. So, you should date and marry earlier." She stated her conclusion plainly.
"Mom, if you keep this up, you’ll lose your son’s love for you," Cheng Chen joked.
"If you don’t marry, you will lose your mom’s love for you," Chen Ailian replied easily. She knew how to handle her son.
Zhu Yanyi peeled a boiled peanut nearby. Then she spoke up. "Brother Cheng Chen, why don’t you want a girlfriend? Are you waiting for Jia Yao? That’s okay too. I met her at the airport recently. I asked someone to check. She’s a small star now. She’s a little famous."
"Who said I’m waiting for Jia Yao? You know me. I hated that white lotus since I was little," Cheng Chen glared at Zhu Yanyi. "Don’t you think marriage is a grave for single nobles like us?"
"Sorry, I don’t think so. Being with my husband feels like living in a nest of happiness," Zhu Yanyi continued peeling peanuts, looking unconcerned.
"Look at these tables. Except for the few young kids, everyone has a boyfriend or girlfriend. Even my Doumiao is only twenty. He has a girlfriend now. And she’s a cute girl like Nuannuan."
Zhu Yanyi looked serious. "Brother Cheng Chen, stop being pretentious. If you don’t find a girlfriend soon, you’ll get old. No one will want you later."
"Thirty is the golden age for men. Do you understand?" Cheng Chen looked at Zhu Yanyi, unhappy.
Zhu Yanyi shrugged slightly. She only spoke to Yan Aohan. "She acts like a rebellious teenager. But isn’t this rebellion coming a bit late?"
Yan Aohan peeled a small lobster for Zhu Yanyi. She put the meat in her bowl. Then she said, "She’s probably unbalanced. She can’t find a good girl because her conditions aren’t enough. So she calls herself a single noble to comfort herself."
"Who said my conditions aren’t enough? Everyone calls me Young Master Cheng when I go out. I have my own company. I graduated from a famous university," Cheng Chen said. He looked less mature and more childish, like his younger self.
Yan Aohan glanced at Cheng Chen. "If you have the ability, get a girlfriend and marry a wife. Otherwise, don’t talk about nobility. I just see you as someone who doesn’t improve." Yan Aohan spoke calmly, but Cheng Chen almost jumped up.
"Wait and see. I will definitely marry by the end of next year," Cheng Chen said seriously.
"Good. Then I’ll wait to drink the tea from my daughter-in-law," Chen Ailian said, looking relieved. She ladled a bowl of seafood soup and ate slowly, comforting herself.
Cheng Chen realized he had been provoked. He glared at Yan Aohan. "You tricked me."
"What did I do?" Yan Aohan looked innocent. "I didn’t urge you to marry. I didn’t force you to get a girlfriend. I just told the truth. You jumped up yourself. It really has nothing to do with me."
Cheng Chen paused. He couldn’t really blame Yan Aohan. Yan Aohan only used reverse psychology. Everything else was Cheng Chen’s own reaction.
Cheng Chen felt speechless. "Being a single noble is really good."
Shangguan Jiacheng said from the side. "Yes, being a single noble is good. But it’s a pity you’re getting old. You should be young like me. Then you can throw your youth around freely."
Shangguan Haohan snorted. "That sounds weird. Jiacheng, don’t think just because Hong Kong is open, you can date casually. That habit is bad. Your mom and I aren’t like that. I don’t know where you got this flirtatious personality."
Shangguan Jiacheng giggled. "Dad, you don’t know? It’s called: ‘I’d rather die old among flowers and wine, than bow before carriages and horses. Carriage dust and horse hooves are for the rich; wine cups and flower branches are for the poor. If you compare wealth to poverty, one is on the ground, one is in the sky. If you compare poverty to carriages, you have to drive, I have leisure.’ It’s also called: ‘If a person isn’t romantic, they wasted their youth.’"
Shangguan Haohan almost sprayed his wine out.
"Jiacheng," Zhu Yanyi said slowly, drinking some wine and clearing her mouth. "How many girlfriends have you had?"
"Not many. And I was serious with each one. When we broke up, I gave them breakup fees," Shangguan Jiacheng said seriously.
"I think you should have surgery," Zhu Yanyi said, picking up a duck wing and gnawing on it.
"What do you mean? Am I sick?" Shangguan Jiacheng frowned. He disliked hospitals, but he respected and trusted this sister.
"I’m worried you’ll get a hidden illness later. So, let’s snap off the third leg early," Zhu Yanyi said calmly, as if talking about the nice weather.
The atmosphere at the table went silent. Then, everyone with wine or drinks in their mouths sprayed it out at the same time.
Yan Aohan carefully picked a piece of beef for Zhu Yanyi. "We’re eating. We can arrange the surgery later."
"I’m a kind person. I’m worried those girls will be harmed by Jiacheng. So, I plan to do the right thing and cut ties with family," Zhu Yanyi said with a smile.
Yan Aohan agreed from the side. "No problem. I’ll just push him onto the operating table then."
Shangguan Jiacheng looked at Yan Aohan and Zhu Yanyi in disbelief. "Sister, Brother-in-law, you’re too cruel."
Yan Aohan glanced at Shangguan Jiacheng. "Jiacheng, your sister is saving you. You’re a young man in your twenties. If you seriously dated a girl and started a family, Mr. Shangguan would agree. But look at you. You date girls with time limits. Do you think all women are toys for you to play with? I suggest you either settle down or find a serious girlfriend. Otherwise, you’ll suffer later."
