Chapter 2449

The Wild Village was home to many other demons. Some, like rabbit demons, still retained their animalistic hands, while others had transformed completely into human forms. The demon population here was diverse.

Yan Aohan and Zhu Yanyi chose this place because the residents were highly transient. Demons often arrived one day and vanished a few days later. Because of this constant turnover, everyone minded their own business. Few formed deep friendships.

Demons were also deeply suspicious of one another. They rarely socialized. However, they shared one common trait: while they ignored each other in peacetime, they would unite as comrades if the Demon Realm faced a crisis. Once the war ended, they would return to their usual distrust.

Yan Aohan purchased a small courtyard. It consisted of three thatched rooms. Although simple, the foundation was solid. Yan Aohan secretly reinforced the structure with a barrier, making the rooms extremely sturdy.

The courtyard was spacious, covering an area equivalent to three rooms.

Zhu Yanyi and Yan Aohan gathered wood to build a fence and a gate. Zhu Yanyi set up an array within the gate. Anyone entering without permission would be trapped by the formation.

Zhu Yanyi divided the courtyard into two sections. On the right, she placed a stone table and chairs, a grape trellis, and a well. On the left, she created a vegetable patch and a herb garden. She planted honeysuckle vines along the fence.

The left and right sides were clearly distinct, separated by a path paved with pebbles.

Looking at their new home, Zhu Yanyi was very satisfied. "This looks like a real home."

Even in the Demon Realm, this house belonged to them since Yan Aohan had bought it. As long as he lived here, it was his home.

Zhu Yanyi’s love for home had never changed. Perhaps because she had been too attached to home in her past life, this love had become one of her weaknesses in this life. It was also a driving force for her to protect her home.

Her other weakness was Yan Aohan.

Yan Aohan understood this weakness well. Therefore, wherever they settled, he tried to own a house. This made their life more complete.

Zhu Yanyi and Yan Aohan had finally found a place to settle in the Demon Realm. However, the couple rarely went out. They lived a very secluded life.

Naturally, some demons noticed the new residents. Usually, newcomers to the Wild Village did not stay long. They typically rented houses. This couple, however, had bought their home, indicating they intended to stay long-term. Most long-term residents preferred nearby villages like Hundred Flowers Village or Fragrant Village, not because of the location, but because of the names. "Wild Village" sounded harsh compared to "Hundred Flowers" or "Fragrant."

Lu Shen, the deer demon village chief, was very curious about the new residents. It was his duty to know who lived in his village.

Yan Aohan was not surprised by Lu Shen’s visit. He invited him in.

Lu Shen was stunned by the courtyard’s appearance. He knew it had looked messy before. Now, everything had changed. He walked on a pebble path. A grape trellis stood nearby, along with stone furniture. On the other side were neat vegetable and herb patches. The layout was simple but warm. It felt unusual in the Demon Realm.

"Village Chief, what brings you to us?" Yan Aohan asked, inviting him to sit at the stone table.

Lu Shen smiled. "I heard new residents arrived. I am just collecting information. Is it just the two of you?"

"Yes, just us," Yan Aohan replied with a light laugh.

"May I ask who you are?" Lu Shen asked directly, wanting to know their background.

Yan Aohan smiled faintly. "My wife is skilled in cultivating herbs." He said nothing else.

In the Demon Realm, only plant demons were skilled in herb cultivation. Lu Shen naturally assumed they were plant demon cultivators. This explained their secluded lifestyle. Plant demons were generally peaceful and lacked the combat power of animal demons.

Lu Shen did not want troublemakers in his village. Hearing this, he felt relieved. "Our Wild Village is quite nice. It is close to the mountains, which should suit your cultivation."

Yan Aohan’s eyes flickered. The chief had misunderstood them.

But it was not his concern. It was the chief’s own assumption, so he did not plan to correct him.

Yan Aohan smiled. "You are right, Village Chief. Please rest assured. We are not troublemakers." If we were, you couldn’t control us anyway, he thought, but did not say it aloud.

"I believe you," Lu Shen said. Plant demons were even more peaceful than herbivorous animal demons. As a deer demon, Lu Shen considered himself peaceful, but plant demons were likely calmer.

Feeling they were similar, Lu Shen’s goodwill toward the couple increased. "Do not worry. No one will disturb you here. You can live in peace."

"Thank you for your help, Village Chief," Yan Aohan said. He then handed Lu Shen some herbs.

Although Lu Shen was an animal demon, he recognized herbs as a herbivore. Yan Aohan gave him thousand-year lingzhi and thousand-year fo-ti. These were rare treasures.

"I will not be polite then," Lu Shen said. Demons only accepted or rejected gifts; there was no need for excessive courtesy.

Yan Aohan nodded. "These were meant for you. Since you came here, I did not need to visit you."
