Chapter 2478
Silver Fox seemed to have shut himself off from the outside world, preferring to stay by the small stream he liked.
Ling Shu arrived and saw Silver Fox lying on a rocking chair, rocking gently with his eyes closed. She felt she didn’t understand him anymore. After knowing him for so many years, she realized she actually knew very little about him.
She guessed that perhaps her long coma had caused the bond between them to fade.
Ling Shu frowned slightly. No, if she lost this emotional support, her plan would fail. She couldn’t afford to lose this connection.
"Qianhuan," Ling Shu called out gently. "It’s so chaotic outside. How can you still have the leisure to relax here?"
Silver Fox opened his eyes, glanced at Ling Shu, and closed them again. "Let the outside world be chaotic. As long as our Fox Clan remains stable, it doesn’t matter."
With him, Silver Fox, as the clan leader, chaos was difficult to achieve. Besides, he was partly responsible for the turmoil outside, so he felt no urgency. He truly didn’t care about what happened beyond their borders.
Ling Shu, unaware of Silver Fox’s role in the external chaos, said, "Qianhuan, you seem to have something on your mind."
"I’ve had worries ever since I cultivated into human form. As the Fox Clan leader, my worries are even greater. You’ve known me for a long time, so why ask?" Silver Fox opened his eyes, his gaze sharp, as if trying to see through her.
Ling Shu hesitated. "No, I just care about you."
Silver Fox hummed. "I know. You care." The six words carried a strange, heavy tone.
Ling Shu felt that something about Silver Fox had changed. She tilted her head, studying him, but couldn’t pinpoint it. "Qianhuan, I heard there’s a Gathering of Demons these days. When will you take me out for a walk?"
Silver Fox sighed deeply. "Ling Shu, it seems you’ve been wanting to say something to me lately."
"There’s nothing. I just thought since you’re unhappy, I’d take you out for a walk," Ling Shu said quickly.
The corner of Silver Fox’s mouth twitched slightly. "Is that so? Because you care about me?"
"Yes," Ling Shu nodded seriously. "Also, my cultivation hasn’t improved much recently, so a walk would be good."
Cultivation? Silver Fox looked at Ling Shu and nodded slightly. "Fine. If you really want to go out, then let’s go. But what benefit will a walk bring you?"
"When your mood is good, cultivation improves naturally," Ling Shu smiled. "I am already a Fox King. Soon, I will become a Fox Venerable, just like you."
There were several levels between Fox King and Fox Venerable, but Silver Fox didn’t seem to mind. He looked at Ling Shu. "Where do you want to go?"
"To a nearby city. I want to see the Gathering of Demons," Ling Shu said.
"Alright, let’s go." Silver Fox agreed. He tossed out a flying artifact, stood up, folded his rocking chair, and boarded the vehicle.
Ling Shu joined him, and Silver Fox flew them away from there.
The city was bustling. Silver Fox carried Ling Shu through the air, looking down at everything below.
This city was managed by the Fox Clan, so most of the residents were foxes.
"Let’s go down," Ling Shu said.
Silver Fox glanced at her, found a quiet spot, landed the vehicle, and walked slowly onto the street.
The street was lively. Perhaps because Silver Fox visited the mortal realm often, the city’s management resembled secular society, making it feel familiar to him.
"This city is so lively. I haven’t been out in a long time. I didn’t expect the outside world to be so vibrant," Ling Shu said, looking around.
Silver Fox looked at her. "I remember you once had an idea to open a pharmacy. Is that right?"
"Yes," Ling Shu nodded. "That was an early idea."
"I have a shop here. If you want to open a store, I can give it to you," Silver Fox said.
"No," Ling Shu refused directly. "I haven’t handled medicinal herbs for years. What if something goes wrong with the herbs in the pharmacy? Better not." After hearing Silver Fox’s suggestion, she gave a dry laugh and declined.
"I thought your dreams wouldn’t change. I didn’t expect your dreams to shift," Silver Fox said, looking surprised.
"They wouldn’t change before, but now they naturally need to change," Ling Shu said, her tone stiff.
Silver Fox didn’t seem suspicious. He just nodded slightly. "I see. Since you don’t want it, then it’s fine."
It seemed to Silver Fox that whether she wanted the shop or not was not a big deal.
Seeing Silver Fox’s indifference, Ling Shu changed the subject. She pointed to a lantern ahead. "There are lanterns there. Let’s go buy some."
"Lanterns?" Silver Fox looked at the lanterns. Ling Shu went ahead, while Silver Fox followed slowly, observing the lanterns as if deep in thought.
Ling Shu looked at the lanterns with apparent curiosity. She then picked one shaped like a mouse. "This one is nice."
Silver Fox looked at Ling Shu. "I remember you liked rabbits the most. Why didn’t you choose a rabbit lantern?"
"Oh, I do like rabbits, but I think changing the style for the lantern is better," Ling Shu paused, then answered with a smile.
"But I remember you hated mice the most," Silver Fox said, his gaze piercing.
Ling Shu froze. Her previously cheerful face turned pale, and her smile became forced. She avoided Silver Fox’s eyes. "I don’t understand what you mean?"
"Ling Shu is a girl who never gives up her dreams. She loves medicinal herbs because she comes from a family of herbalists. To say her ability to make medicine degraded just because she slept for a while is a joke. Ling Shu and Su Wen had a very close relationship. When they traveled together outside, they held hands, acting as one person."
Silver Fox looked at Ling Shu. "Ling Shu didn’t like heavy meat; she preferred fruits. But she liked steamed or boiled chicken, duck, fish, and meat. Ling Shu was responsible for everything and never treated things casually. Ling Shu was shrewd and saw things clearly. Ling Shu disliked mice because she believed they spread plague. None of these traits are present in you. Who are you really?"
"You… what are you saying?" Ling Shu took a few steps back. "Qianhuan, I am Ling Shu."
"You possess Ling Shu’s appearance, but you lack her personality. Or rather, you are not Ling Shu’s soul. Where did you come from, you wandering ghost?"
