Chapter 2594
Chapter 2594: The Return of the Yan Emperor
"Is the sect not good?" Yu Yinuo took a bite of the freshly roasted pig trotter.
"It’s not that it’s bad, but I’m not used to being bound," Zhu Zhibin said. "I won’t hide it from you two. I came from the mortal realm. Back there, I was bound by too many things. Now that I’ve finally broken free, joining a sect would just mean new chains. So, I’ve decided not to join."
Zhu Zhibin truly had no interest in sects.
Wen Jianjue and Yu Yinuo understood the implication in his words.
"You said you’re from the mortal realm?" Yu Yinuo asked curiously.
"Yes, I am. Why do you ask?" Zhu Zhibin didn’t understand why Yu Yinuo was so curious.
"Is the lifespan of mortals really that long now?" Yu Yinuo’s curiosity peaked.
For cultivators, one of the main benefits of cultivation was extending one’s life. This was the biggest difference between cultivators and mortals. If mortals lived just as long, what was the point of cultivating?
Zhu Yanyi laughed. "Actually, mortal lifespans are still fixed. In my realm, the maximum lifespan doesn’t exceed two hundred years."
"That’s not too离谱 (outrageous)," Yu Yinuo breathed a sigh of relief. If it were too extreme, he might have preferred to remain a mortal.
"Mortal lifespans aren’t long. You’re overthinking it," Wen Jianjue glanced at Yu Yinuo.
Yu Yinuo didn’t mind his senior brother’s slight disdain. He just asked, "But are all mortals like you? Can they awaken their cultivation potential at any time?"
"No, we are exceptions," Zhu Yanyi said. "Mortals remain mortals. Without special opportunities, they cannot awaken cultivation talent. This is undeniable. My brother and I are rare exceptions."
"Um, Senior Sister Zhu, can you tell us your cultivation level?" Yu Yinuo hesitated, but curiosity got the better of him.
Zhu Yanyi gave her a knowing smile. "So curious?"
"Yes," Yu Yinuo nodded.
"I think it’s better to keep it a mystery," Zhu Yanyi laughed softly. "But don’t worry. No matter how deep my cultivation is, I won’t do anything harmful to your cultivation world."
"I’m naturally assured of that," Yu Yinuo said. If someone who could guide him wanted to harm the cultivation world, he wouldn’t have offered such guidance.
Zhu Zhibin smiled lightly. "You don’t need to ask. You won’t guess my sister’s cultivation level."
"If we can’t guess, we won’t ask," Wen Jianjue said calmly. She knew that some things required fate to be understood. Since Zhu Yanyi clearly didn’t want to say, she wouldn’t press further.
Zhu Yanyi nodded slightly at Wen Jianjue’s decisiveness. These two disciples from the Sword Sect were indeed impressive. She thought for a moment, then said to Zhu Zhibin, "Zhibin, keep them company. I’ll go inside to get something."
"Okay." Zhu Zhibin realized Zhu Yanyi had a good impression of Wen Jianjue and Yu Yinuo and likely wanted to give them a return gift.
Yes, a return gift. When Wen Jianjue and Yu Yinuo arrived, they had brought gifts. Although they were just local specialties, the saying went, "The gift is light, but the sentiment is heavy."
Yu Yinuo saw Zhu Zhibin drinking flower wine and felt tempted. He took a sip. "Junior Brother Zhu, this wine is delicious. Where did you buy it?"
"My sister brewed it," Zhu Zhibin said. "So you can’t buy it outside. Drink as much as you can while you’re here. Once you leave, you won’t find it again."
Wen Jianjue also took a sip. "Such good wine… it’s a pity to drink it."
"Why be reluctant?" Zhu Zhibin said casually. "Wine is meant to be drunk. If you’re reluctant to drink it, what else will you be reluctant about? Life would be too stifling."
"Exactly!" Yu Yinuo agreed. "Junior Brother Zhu, your words are refreshing. For such refreshing words, we should drink a large cup!" He raised his jar and toasted Zhu Zhibin in the air.
Zhu Zhibin didn’t refuse and toasted back.
This leisurely time of drinking and eating meat made Yu Yinuo and Wen Jianjue feel relaxed.
As they were drinking, the space rippled slightly, and Yan Aohan appeared in the courtyard.
"Brother-in-law," Zhu Zhibin greeted him. "You’re back."
Yan Aohan nodded slightly. His eyes swept over Wen Jianjue and Yu Yinuo. They felt an innate pressure emanating from him. Unconsciously, they sensed that Yan Aohan was no ordinary cultivator.
"Where is your sister?" Yan Aohan asked.
"She’s inside." Zhu Zhibin pointed to Yu Yinuo and Wen Jianjue. "These two are Wen Jianjue and Yu Yinuo from the Sword Sect. They’re new friends we met. I invited them here for barbecue today."
Yan Aohan smiled and nodded. "Then have fun." He noticed the empty barbecue grill. "That’s your sister’s spot."
Zhu Zhibin nodded. "Seeing all the mushrooms and vegetables, it’s definitely my sister’s spot."
Yan Aohan knew this well. She walked over and skillfully started grilling. Zhu Yanyi came out and saw Yan Aohan busy. She smiled. "You’re back?"
Yan Aohan hummed, then went over to support Zhu Yanyi and sat down. She handed her a grilled crucian carp. "As soon as I’m gone, you stop eating meat."
Zhu Yanyi stuck out her tongue. "I didn’t stop eating meat. Look, I prepared plenty of beef and tenderloin. They just haven’t been grilled yet."
Yan Aohan shook his head helplessly. "I’ll grill it for you. Eat first."
"Okay. You eat too." Zhu Yanyi picked up a piece of fish with her chopsticks and fed it to Yan Aohan.
Yan Aohan took a bite, then picked up several skewers of tenderloin to grill.
Wen Jianjue and Yu Yinuo watched the interaction between Zhu Yanyi and Yan Aohan, stunned. They had never seen such an interaction. It seemed something only found in the mortal realm.
"Don’t look at my sister and brother-in-law. Whenever they’re together, they’re always showing off their love," Zhu Zhibin said with a grin.
Yan Aohan glanced at Zhu Zhibin. "It seems you’ve adapted well to the cultivation world."
Zhu Zhibin immediately became serious. "That’s only because you and my sister are here. I don’t need to worry about anything else."
Yan Aohan shook his head slightly. It was a surprise that his brother-in-law could cultivate, but since he could, Yan Aohan would naturally help him out.
