Chapter 2987
By noon, Yan Xiwan used silver needles to wake the child.
The toddler, only one or two years old, did not recognize anyone. Yet, children are sensitive. He could feel the kindness radiating from them, so he cried for a while.
She was likely very hungry. When Wang Suyan fed her porridge, she ate voraciously.
At that moment, the train conductor received information and learned the child’s background.
The child was actually from a prestigious family. His great-grandfather had fought alongside the former President. Most of the family had perished, leaving only a disabled grandson. Fortunately, the grandson was determined. Despite his disability, he became an engineer and won the love of a schoolmate. They married and had this only child, who was then abducted.
"Grandpa, we found Junjun." In the capital, Zhang Liguo, a man with only one hand, spoke with joy.
"That’s wonderful! Where is Junjun?" the old man asked urgently.
"Traffickers drugged him and put him on a train heading south. The trafficker didn’t have time to buy a ticket, so he sneaked into a soft sleeper compartment. A doctor in that compartment smelled the anesthesia on Junjun, subdued the trafficker, and notified the conductor. The next stop is Qinshi Station. I’ve asked my cousin and cousin-in-law, who are on business there, to pick him up at the station," Zhang Liguo explained to the old man.
Hearing this, the old man’s frail figure seemed to regain vitality. "Good. Send people to pick him up immediately. I will also make a call. We must punish this trafficker severely and investigate who else is involved."
"Grandpa, I’ll prepare the car. We’ll leave for Qinshi shortly," Zhang Liguo said.
"I’m going with you," the old man decided firmly.
"Grandpa, your health…" Zhang Liguo hesitated, considering the old man’s age.
"It’s fine. I took medicine prescribed by Old Man Yuan a few years ago, so I’m in good shape. This episode was triggered by Junjun’s abduction." The old man had weathered many storms.
"Alright, then the whole family will go," Zhang Liguo decided immediately.
Yan Xiwan was unaware of these events. When the train stopped, the conductor led a couple into the compartment.
"Junjun, do you recognize your uncle and aunt?" The man looked at the child with eyes full of joy.
The toddler tilted his head, seemed to think for a moment, then reached out for a hug. "Uncle."
"Yes, Uncle. Junjun is so smart." The man picked up Junjun.
Junjun immediately wrapped his arms around the man’s neck.
Feeling the child’s need for security, the man patted his back gently. He then looked around the compartment and paused when he saw Ouyang Tianyun. "Are you Commissioner Ouyang?"
Ouyang Tianyun raised an eyebrow slightly. "I am Ouyang Tianyun."
"Commissioner Ouyang, it really is you. I am Xie Tian’en from the capital. This child’s full name is Zhang Jun. He is the only heir of the Zhang family in the capital," Xie Tian’en quickly explained the situation.
Ouyang Tianyun nodded slightly. "The child was frightened, but it’s fine. My fiancée is a doctor and has already treated him. Once you’re home, spend more time with him to help him feel secure. That should resolve any issues."
Ouyang Tianyun had heard of the Xie and Zhang families.
Xie Tian’en nodded quickly. "Is Commissioner Ouyang heading south?"
"I’m accompanying my fiancée and her parents to visit their hometown in the south," Ouyang Tianyun said honestly.
"Then we will come to thank you properly after you return to the capital," Xie Tian’en said. He was not ignorant of etiquette. The family was traveling for a visit. It was his nephew’s luck that they were here; otherwise, he might have been taken to the far south, with unknown consequences.
"We simply discovered the trafficker and acted accordingly. There’s no need for formal thanks," Ouyang Tianyun said, indifferent to whether they thanked him or not.
"Regardless, we are grateful. We will express our thanks in detail when you return to the capital," Xie Tian’en insisted.
"Very well. We’ll talk then. The train will likely depart soon, so you should get off," Ouyang Tianyun urged.
Knowing the train couldn’t stay stopped too long, Xie Tian’en nodded. He held Junjun and left the train with his wife.
Shortly after they departed, the train started moving again.
Yan Xiwan remarked, "The Xie family seems influential. They kept the train stopped for over ten minutes for them."
Ouyang Tianyun smiled. "It’s not the Xie family’s influence, but the Zhang family’s. The Zhang patriarch was a trusted aide to the former President. After the President’s passing, the Zhang family received special treatment. Moreover, during the turbulent years, five of their sons sacrificed their lives to save others. Only Zhang Liguo, a disabled grandson missing one hand, remained."
"The wars of that time were truly terrifying," Yan Tieniu sighed.
Ouyang Tianyun nodded. "Indeed. Although the Zhang family isn’t a top-tier noble house, they are a second-tier one. This is despite having few descendants. If they had more heirs, they would likely be among the first-tier families."
"So, a family’s prosperity depends on its descendants. Children are very important," Yan Tieniu said seriously.
Ouyang Tianyun nodded with a smile. "Yes, Uncle is right. My father says the same."
Yan Tieniu added, "But Old Man Zhang is also a strong person."
"Indeed," Ouyang Tianyun agreed.
The loss of five sons showed how terrible the war had been and how hard-won their current happiness was.
Yan Xiwan peeled peanuts. "Anyway, even if we interact with them, it will be after we return to the capital. They might just be being polite."
Yan Tieniu nodded, agreeing with Yan Xiwan’s view.
Ouyang Tianyun smiled silently. For ordinary people, it might indeed be just politeness, perhaps with some money. But because they discovered who Yan Xiwan was, and after a brief investigation, they would know her identity. They would likely come to thank them directly upon their return to the capital.
Yan Xiwan raised an eyebrow slightly, then dismissed the thought.
She saved people out of her own conscience. She hadn’t thought about anything else.
Meanwhile, in Qinshi, Zhang Liguo arrived with the old man and his wife.
Seeing Junjun safe, his wife, Zhang Qiuhong, rushed forward and hugged him, tears falling heavily.
Zhang Liguo and the old man also hugged and kissed Junjun for a while before sitting down in the room, guided by Xie Tian’en.
"Tian’en, who saved Junjun?" the old man asked.
"Cousin, we must thank this lifesaver," Zhang Liguo said.
Xie Tian’en replied, "Grandpa, Cousin, the ones who saved Junjun are Commissioner Ouyang Tianyun of the Ouyang family and his fiancée, Yan Xiwan."
