Chapter 2992

Three years had passed. It was neither a long nor a short time, yet it had allowed Yan Xiwan to grow significantly.

She was now truly the legendary "Yan Saint Hand." This meant that any illness she treated would be cured without fail. However, Yan Xiwan rarely saw patients anymore. She devoted herself mostly to drug development, having created many medicines useful for soldiers and civilians. In the eyes of many, she was like a deity.

Yet, she remained low-key and seldom went out.

In these three years, Yan Zhixin had married, and Yan Zhishan had become engaged. The Yan family was thriving.

"We discussed the date for Zhishan’s wedding recently. If nothing unexpected happens, we’ll hold it early next year," Wang Suyan said, frying lard.

"My brother can’t wait to get married," Yan Xiwan smiled. "By the way, Mother, I’ll spend the New Year here this year."

Yan Xiwan and Ouyang Tianyun were already registered as husband and wife. In name, they were truly married. However, they had only the title, not the full reality. Over the past three years, despite her hard work, Yan Xiwan’s cultivation had stalled at the late stage of the Golden Core realm. She hadn’t even reached the peak, let alone broken through to the Nascent Soul stage.

Wang Suyan laughed. "That’s good. We’ll hold your brother’s wedding early next year, and then yours and Tianyun’s in the second half of the year. By next New Year, you’ll be spending it at your husband’s home."

Yan Xiwan smiled. "Actually, I spend very little time at home during the New Year. Didn’t I spend last New Year with the combat team?"

"That’s true," Wang Suyan agreed, realizing it was indeed so.

Because Yan Xiwan’s medicines were highly effective for the combat team, she had been specially invited to spend the New Year with them last year.

Due to her achievements, Yan Xiwan now required bodyguards whenever she went out. Although these guards were useless against her—since no one except Ouyang Tianyun could match her skills—she accepted them to give others peace of mind.

"I just want you and your brother to get married. Then my life will be complete," Wang Suyan said with a smile.

"Mother, my brother is marrying early next year. I’m already registered, and our wedding will be in the second half of next year. What more could you worry about?" Yan Xiwan asked.

"It’s your work. I suspect you’ll spend your wedding day at your workplace," Wang Suyan said, clearly dissatisfied with this aspect.

Yan Xiwan raised an eyebrow. "Mother, why do you think that?"

"How else should I think? Tell me, since you got your own laboratory, how many days off do you take in a year?" Wang Suyan was happy her children were successful, but she still had complaints.

Yan Xiwan raised her eyebrows slightly, then gave her mother a coaxing, slightly embarrassed smile. "Actually, it’s fine. I rest after each project ends."

"The problem is your new projects follow one after another. I’ve never seen you rest," Wang Suyan said, very dissatisfied with this point.

"Isn’t it said that if you don’t work hard when young, you’ll regret it when old? I don’t want to waste my youth," Yan Xiwan said seriously.

Wang Suyan shook her head. "Forget it. I can’t win an argument with you. Here, lard cracklings. Add salt or sugar yourself."

Wang Suyan smiled and handed Yan Xiwan a small bowl of lard cracklings.

Yan Xiwan didn’t hesitate. The bowl held about seven or eight pieces. She divided them in half, dipping one half in salt and the other in sugar.

She picked one up and ate it. "The lard cracklings are delicious. Mother, save some for making dumplings."

"There’s plenty. I bought three large pieces of pork fat, costing nearly six yuan. Don’t worry about running out of cracklings for dumplings," Wang Suyan said, continuing to fry the lard.

Yan Xiwan quickly finished both flavors and clapped her hands. "So tasty. It would be even better stir-fried with Chinese cabbage."

"I’ll make some for you in a bit," Wang Suyan smiled. "We can afford fish and meat now, let alone Chinese cabbage."

She added, "Go to the yard and pull a Chinese cabbage."

"Okay!" Yan Xiwan replied and hurried out.

In the Yan family yard, Wang Suyan grew many vegetables. Winter varieties included Chinese cabbage, lettuce, cauliflower, yellow sprouts, and lettuce stems.

She didn’t grow large quantities, but the variety was rich.

Yan Xiwan took a basket into the yard. She pulled two Chinese cabbages and three or five lettuces. Then, she went to a small greenhouse in the corner and picked a few strawberries before returning.

"Mother, the strawberries at home are already red. I picked a few," Yan Xiwan said.

"You can also pick two pomelos from the old pomelo tree in the yard. We’ll make pomelo wine for dinner," Wang Suyan instructed.

"Okay." Yan Xiwan agreed and went to pick the pomelos.

Just as she reached the door, she saw Ouyang Tianyun entering.

Seeing her about to leave, she asked, "Where are you going?"

"To pick pomelos. Mother said we’re making pomelo wine for dinner. We need the peel," Yan Xiwan said honestly.

"I’ll go. Take these inside," Ouyang Tianyun said, holding two roast ducks.

"You bought roast ducks?" Yan Xiwan asked.

"I didn’t buy them. I had someone bring them. Xiao Chen happened to go to the roast duck shop, so I asked him to bring two," Ouyang Tianyun explained.

Yan Xiwan shrugged slightly, took the ducks, and went into the kitchen to plate them.

Ouyang Tianyun soon returned with two pomelos. "Mother, should I peel them? I can do it." Since registering, Ouyang Tianyun had started calling Yan Tieniu and Wang Suyan "Father" and "Mother."

"Okay," Wang Suyan said, not being polite with him.

Ouyang Tianyun nodded, took out a small knife, and began peeling.

Yan Xiwan asked, "When do you get your holiday?"

"The day after tomorrow is Little New Year’s Eve, so the holiday starts then," Ouyang Tianyun said. "Actually, there’s not much work tomorrow either, but we’ll go back to clean up."

When there were no projects, things were quite relaxed.

Yan Xiwan nodded. "I’m more straightforward. I let them start their holiday today. The project has reached a stage, and staying in the lab would just mean staring at each other."

Ouyang Tianyun smiled. "Our project just finished today. But we haven’t done the big cleaning yet, so we need one more day tomorrow. Actually, it won’t take a full day."
