Chapter 574: Dividing the Li Family’s Assets!

Yang Chuang smiled broadly upon hearing Zhu Yanyi’s agreement. "Rest assured, I have already arranged for diapers and spare clothes. You can feed her with the can of milk powder bought this morning. I will go out tomorrow to buy another one. Two cans should last until her father returns."

Zhu Yanyi felt too exhausted to argue. Yang Chuang’s approach to raising a child was akin to raising a pig—utterly impractical. However, the arrival of the infant had sparked great curiosity among the twenty children. They all gathered around Zhu Yanyi, eager to learn how to care for the baby. For many of them, who were either the youngest in their families or only children, holding a newborn was a completely novel and fascinating experience.

Zhu Yanyi handled the infant with practiced ease. Watching her, Keith’s eyes lit up with surprise. "You actually know how to take care of a child."

Zhu Yanyi smiled gently. "I am not from a big city. My brother, Zhu Zhibin, and I grew up in the countryside. When Zhibin was born, my sister and I took care of him. Children from poor families grow up fast. Because I had experience caring for Zhibin, looking after this baby feels natural to me."

Keith looked enlightened. "You will surely be a wonderful mother someday." His gaze softened, his thoughts drifting somewhere distant.

Zhu Yanyi laughed lightly. "That is still very far away. I am only fourteen years old, far from adulthood. Besides, I have many other things to do. Marriage and having children are not on my mind right now."

Hearing this, Keith’s eyes flickered again, but he said nothing more. With the baby present, the children no longer went to the fields. Instead, they stayed in the military camp, rehearsing performances for the farewell show scheduled for two days before their departure.

Five days after the baby’s arrival, Yang Chuang returned with a young soldier. "Zhu Yanyi, this is Comrade Luo Wen. She has come to pick up the child."

Zhu Yanyi nodded and pointed to the sleeping infant. "The baby is very cute and well-behaved. She usually sleeps after eating. She only cries when she is hungry or needs a diaper change. As long as she is full and clean, she stays quiet. She is very easy to care for."

"The baby?" Luo Wen looked at his daughter on the bed, his eyes filled with restrained emotion. The tragedy that had befallen his family had caused him immense pain. He was relieved that the child was safe; otherwise, he did not know what he might have done.

"We did not know the child’s name, so we gave her the nickname 'Wawa' (Baby)," Zhu Yanyi explained with a smile.

"Thank you," Luo Wen said, his voice thick with gratitude. He knew the incident had terrified the villagers. If the baby had been left with them, they might have been reluctant to help. Meeting Yang Chuang and his group had been a stroke of luck for the child.

Zhu Yanyi accepted her thanks gracefully. "There is no need to be so polite. Wawa is very good." She then handed her a travel bag. "There is less than half a can of milk powder left. During the day, she eats every four hours. At night, she needs a diaper change and a feeding around one o’clock. After eating at eight in the evening, she sleeps until about one in the morning. After that feeding, she will not be hungry until after five in the morning. I have put the remaining one and a half cans of milk powder in the bag, along with three sets of clothes and more than ten clean diapers. This should be enough for you. When you change the diapers, wash them immediately with clean water, then soak them in boiling water for five minutes. Wash them again and hang them out to dry."
