Chapter 617: Undercurrents Swirl!

"Curious?" Yan Aohan smiled. He didn't smile often, but this time, his smile felt particularly warm. "Curiosity is a good thing. I was worried you wouldn't be curious. Now that you are, I can rest easy."

Zhu Yanyi heard the double meaning in her words and stuck out her tongue at her. She couldn't understand how someone could have such thick skin.

In less than an hour, Zhang Sheng appeared again, holding a document for Yan Aohan. "Boss, here are the investigation results."

Yan Aohan took it and began to read. The information wasn't extensive; he finished it in a minute or two. Feeling relieved, he handed the document to Zhu Yanyi. "Take a look."

Zhu Yanyi looked at Yan Aohan with suspicion. She raised an eyebrow, signaling him to read. He reluctantly took the document and started reading. After a moment, he rubbed his forehead. "So, she caused this trouble herself."

The report showed that Luoyang Jun had secretly transferred her work and household registration from the capital to Shanghai to escape an arranged marriage. No wonder Zhu Yanyi had met her in Shanghai. This time, she had been taken away after her fiancée's family discovered her whereabouts.

It was a false alarm. Zhu Yanyi sighed with relief. "It's good that she's safe. But who is her fiancée?"

Zhang Sheng answered, "Luoyang Jun's fiancée comes from a powerful background. Her grandfather was a very famous figure in Shanghai. During the war and turbulent times, her family had sharp eyes and always managed to stay safe. They also supported the first boss during the war, so they remain influential in Shanghai today. Luoyang Jun was foolish. Why run to Shanghai? It’s her fiancée’s territory."

Zhang Sheng’s tone sounded like she was disappointed in Luoyang Jun, but Zhu Yanyi felt a hint of schadenfreude in her voice.

Zhu Yanyi looked at Zhang Sheng deeply and said slowly, "I feel like you’re enjoying this. That’s not good."

Zhang Sheng waved his hands quickly, denying it. "How could I be enjoying this? I’m expressing deep sympathy." He laughed again.

"You don’t know. If Luoyang Jun had just worked hard at the hospital in Shanghai every day, it would have been fine. But he insisted on celebrating his successful escape with colleagues. Celebrating is one thing, but going to a bar after dinner? And the bar he went to was owned by his fiancée. He practically walked into a trap."

By the end, Zhang Sheng was openly enjoying the situation, even catching Yan Aohan’s glance.

"Cough," Zhu Yanyi said, feeling sorry for Luoyang Jun. "You’re an adult. How can you be so careless? Now you’re paying the price." Of course, Zhu Yanyi denied feeling any schadenfreude herself. "Are you sure she won’t be in danger?"

"Please rest assured, Miss. Luoyang Jun will be safe. His fiancée actually likes him very much. She’s just a bit dominant, and he has a rebellious streak. I think their relationship might have some comedic potential," Zhang Sheng explained.
