In the second year of middle school, a new subject, physics, would be added. In the third year, chemistry would be added. For the high school entrance exam, math, Chinese, and English were the required subjects. These three were the most important. The exam time was also longer. For example, math and Chinese exams lasted two hours each. The English exam lasted one and a half hours. The other subjects usually had one-hour exams.
Zhu Yanyi looked through the six textbooks in her hands. She had already mastered all the middle school knowledge. However, it was different from the books she had studied on her own. So, she had to review them again to make sure she didn’t miss anything. This was especially true for politics. The exam included current events, requiring students to stay updated. She wondered if she should subscribe to a newspaper.
Zhu Yanyi took her textbooks back to the dormitory and climbed up to her top bunk. She took out a math book and started reading.
Wang Yueer saw this and said, "Little Eight, can you understand middle school textbooks?" Since they confirmed Zhu Yanyi was the youngest, they called her Little Eight.
Zhu Yanyi nodded. "I learned a bit before. Now I’m just looking at it as previewing. Aren’t you looking at yours?"
"Can you teach me?" Wang Yueer asked shyly. "We have class tomorrow, and I don’t understand these middle school things."
Zhu Yanyi thought for a moment. "Sure. Do all of you want to learn? If so, let’s preview together."
"Great." They hadn’t planned to go out anyway. Girls at this age were still quite reserved. Plus, previewing before class was a good habit. Once agreed, they all took out their textbooks.
With all the roommates having their books out, Zhu Yanyi climbed down and started teaching them to preview. She could quickly find the key points for the first five lessons in math, Chinese, English, geography, politics, and history. Then, she let them study on their own.
"Ani." Just as they were studying, Cheng Chen arrived. Seeing them studying, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.
"Brother Cheng Chen, why are you here?" Zhu Yanyi asked curiously. She knew Cheng Chen wouldn’t come to the girls’ dormitory unless there was something important.
"Little Eight, who is this?" An Xiaoxiao asked curiously.
Zhu Yanyi smiled. "This is my brother. She is also in our class. Her parents are my godparents."
"So you are Cheng Chen. I know you got third place in Yong City." Gao Xia said directly from the side. "I didn’t expect you to be Little Eight’s brother." Then she looked envious. "Do geniuses only know other geniuses?"
"Little Eight?" Cheng Chen looked surprised.
Zhu Yanyi pointed at everyone. "There are eight of us. I am the youngest, so I am Little Eight. Gao Xia is the eldest, Wang Yueer is second, Chen Fei is third, Wang Annie is fourth, Liu Min is fifth, Li Lili is sixth, and An Xiaoxiao is seventh. I am Little Eight." She introduced them briefly. Since Cheng Chen might come looking for her again, it was better to introduce them now.
"Why are they all 'Old' but you are 'Little'?" Cheng Chen was speechless. The older ones were only one or two years older.
Zhu Yanyi shrugged, indicating she didn’t know why either. "They arranged it themselves. I have no objection." Then she asked, "Brother Cheng Chen, what do you need me for?"
"Yes, there is something. Teacher Gao asked me to notify you. He wants us to go to his practice chamber together." Cheng Chen stated his purpose.
